Detailed Itinerary

Early Morning Departure from Mumbai

Your unforgettable journey begins early in the morning with a 6:00 AM pickup from your hotel or residence in Mumbai. You will be comfortably transferred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to catch your flight to Delhi. This smooth transition sets the tone for your adventure, allowing you to relax and prepare for the day ahead. Once you land at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, your private driver will be waiting to escort you on a scenic 3.5-hour drive to Agra via the modern Yamuna Expressway. This expressway is one of India’s most well-maintained highways, offering pleasant countryside views as you leave the urban sprawl behind and approach the heart of Mughal history.

Arrival and Exploration of Agra Fort

Upon arrival in Agra, you will check in to your hotel and take some time to unwind from the journey. Later, you will meet your professional local guide, who will accompany you to the magnificent Agra Fort. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a sprawling red sandstone fortress that once served as the royal residence of the Mughal emperors. As you walk through its massive gates and ornate courtyards, your guide will share captivating stories of the fort’s historical significance and architectural brilliance. You will explore the grand halls where emperors once held court, the intricately designed palaces, and the formidable ramparts that overlook the Yamuna River. The fort’s blend of Islamic and Hindu architectural styles offers a vivid glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of Mughal India.

Sunset at Mehtab Bagh

As the day winds down, you will have the opportunity to visit Mehtab Bagh, a serene garden complex located directly across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. This spot is known for offering one of the most breathtaking sunset views of the Taj Mahal’s white marble domes and minarets glowing in the golden light. Strolling through the lush greenery of Mehtab Bagh, you will enjoy a peaceful moment of reflection while taking in this iconic view. Don’t forget your camera, as the silhouette of the Taj Mahal against the setting sun is a memory you’ll want to capture forever. After sunset, you will return to your hotel in Agra for a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Sunrise Visit to the Taj Mahal

Prepare for an early start on the second day, as you will visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, widely considered the best time to experience its ethereal beauty. Arriving as dawn breaks, you’ll witness the monument bathed in soft, warm light that changes color as the sun rises. Your expert guide will walk you through the Taj Mahal’s fascinating history, explaining how Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned this mausoleum in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. You will admire the exquisite craftsmanship, from the delicate marble inlay work to the perfectly symmetrical gardens that surround the monument. There will be ample time to explore at your own pace and take photographs that truly do justice to this wonder of the world.

Return Journey to Mumbai

After soaking in the magic of the Taj Mahal, you’ll return to your hotel for a hearty breakfast and check out. Your driver will then take you back to Delhi via the Yamuna Expressway, ensuring a comfortable and smooth ride. Doing the Taj Mahal at sunrise was worth the whole trip. Our Agra guide had us at the gate before the crowds and the marble genuinely turned pink as the sun came up. Having the overnight hotel meant we weren't exhausted, and the private car on the Yamuna Expressway was smooth and cool. Honestly one of the best experiences of our India trip.

Everything was handled for us from the Mumbai flight to the last transfer, which took all the stress out of a big day trip. Agra Fort surprised me as much as the Taj itself, and our guide knew every story behind the walls. Breakfast at the hotel was solid and the whole thing felt organised and private. Great value considering flights were included.

A beautiful tour and the guide in Agra was lovely and patient with our questions. My only honest note is the very early start on day one, we were up before dawn for the flight, so don't expect to sleep in. It was also quite hot walking around the fort in September. That said, seeing the Taj at sunset from Mehtab Bagh made up for the tired legs.

Precise and well timed from start to finish. The optional Mehtab Bagh stop at sunset was the highlight for me, the reflection of the Taj across the river is something photos never quite capture. Guide was knowledgeable about the Mughal history and never rushed us. The included entry tickets meant zero queuing. Would recommend to anyone flying in from Mumbai.

We travelled with my parents who are in their seventies, and the overnight pace was perfect for them. No rushing, a comfortable hotel, and the private air-conditioned vehicle made the Delhi to Agra drive easy on everyone. Our guide arranged a wonderful vegetarian thali recommendation nearby. The whole family loved it and it felt genuinely worth what we paid.

January was the ideal time to visit, cool and clear, and the sunrise light on the Taj was unreal. The flights connected well and the driver was waiting for us at every point. What I appreciated most was how everything was included, tickets, tolls, hotel, so there were no surprise costs. Our guide clearly loved his city and it showed.

Genuinely memorable and the guiding at both the Taj and Agra Fort was excellent. Fair warning, it is a long two days with the flights either end and a fair bit of walking on uneven stone, so wear proper shoes. There were also a few persistent sellers at the main gate, but our guide handled them for us. Still absolutely glad we chose the overnight version over a rushed day trip.

Slick operation from the Mumbai airport pickup onward. Staying overnight let us see the Taj Mahal twice, in evening light and again early morning, and the difference in atmosphere was striking. Photography around the gardens and gateways was fantastic, though you can't shoot inside the mausoleum itself. The private guide and included breakfast rounded it off nicely. Highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

You fly from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai to Delhi, then travel by private air-conditioned vehicle along the smooth Yamuna Expressway to Agra. The next day you return the same way. Round-trip flights, all airport transfers, and the Delhi–Agra–Delhi driving are included, so you never have to arrange transport yourself.
The single Overnight Taj Mahal Tour From Mumbai option at $805 covers a lot: round-trip flights, airport transfers, a private A/C vehicle for the Delhi–Agra–Delhi route, a professional local guide in Agra, 1 night of hotel accommodation with breakfast, all monument entry tickets, and every toll, parking fee and driver allowance. In short, your main out-of-pocket costs are just lunches, dinners and any tips.
All monument entry tickets are included in the $805 price, including the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. You will not need to queue separately or pay at the gate for these. If you prefer a faster, single-day version, the Same Day Taj Mahal Tour From Mumbai with Flight also bundles the ticketing for you.
The Agra portion is run privately, with a dedicated air-conditioned vehicle and your own professional local guide, so the pace of your Taj Mahal and Agra Fort visits is set by you. The flights themselves are scheduled commercial flights shared with other passengers, which is normal for a fly-in trip of this kind.
Mehtab Bagh is a Mughal garden on the far bank of the Yamuna River, directly opposite the Taj Mahal, and it offers one of the best sunset views of the monument without the main-gate crowds. On this tour it is an optional visit, so let your guide know in advance if you'd like to add it to your afternoon.
Because you stay overnight in Agra, you can visit at the two most magical times: sunrise, when the marble glows soft pink and crowds are thinnest, and again in golden evening light or from Mehtab Bagh at sunset. This flexibility is the biggest advantage of the overnight format over a rushed same-day trip. Your guide will help you plan the timing around your hotel breakfast.
Agra is hot for much of the year, with summers (April–June) often exceeding 40°C, so bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. October to March is the most comfortable season and ideal for this tour. Since the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort are religious and historical sites, lightweight modest clothing and easy-to-remove shoes are best, as you'll go barefoot or wear shoe covers near the main mausoleum.
Expect a fair amount of walking on marble, stone and some uneven ground across the Taj Mahal complex and the ramparts of Agra Fort, with a few steps and gentle slopes at the fort. There are no strenuous climbs, but comfortable shoes make a big difference. Tell your guide if anyone in your group needs a slower pace and they'll adjust the route.
Yes. The private vehicle, included flights and overnight hotel make the pace far gentler than a same-day trip, which suits families and seniors well. Just be mindful of Agra's heat and the walking at each monument. If a full overnight feels like a lot, families sometimes prefer the shorter Same Day Taj Mahal Tour From Mumbai instead.
Breakfast at your Agra hotel is included in the $805 price; lunches and dinners are not, giving you freedom to choose. Agra and the wider region are very vegetarian-friendly, and both hotel and local restaurants offer excellent veg thalis, Mughlai dishes and Jain options on request. Mention any dietary needs to your guide and they'll recommend trusted spots.
Absolutely, and your guide knows the classic angles, including the reflecting-pool shot and the framed views through the gateways. Note that photography is not permitted inside the main mausoleum of the Taj Mahal, though the exterior and gardens are wide open for photos. Tripods and drones are restricted at both monuments.
The tour includes one night in a comfortable Agra hotel with breakfast the following morning. This is what lets you catch a peaceful sunrise at the Taj Mahal rather than racing the clock. If you'd like a similar overnight structure but with different flight timings, see the Taj Mahal overnight tour from Mumbai by flight.
This is a 48-hour, two-day itinerary built around an early flight from Mumbai to Delhi, so expect a pre-dawn start on day one to make the most of your time in Agra. The relaxed overnight format means the second day can be more leisurely, ending with your return flight to Mumbai. Your exact flight times are confirmed after booking.
Yes. You're accompanied by a professional local guide in Agra and a private driver throughout, and the well-maintained Yamuna Expressway is a fast, secure route between Delhi and Agra. As at any major monument, keep an eye on belongings in crowded areas and politely decline persistent souvenir sellers near the gates; your guide will help you navigate them.
Booking is confirmed once you complete payment for the $805 option, after which we finalize your flights and Agra hotel and send your itinerary. Because this tour involves flight tickets, cancellation terms are stricter than a standard day tour, so please review the policy shown at checkout carefully before confirming. If your dates aren't fixed yet, contact us and we'll advise the best booking window.
This overnight tour is ideal if you want to see the Taj Mahal unhurried at both sunrise and sunset. If time is tight, the Same Day Taj Mahal Tour From Mumbai covers the highlights in a single day, while travelers wanting to add another city love the 3-Day Luxury Taj Mahal & Pink City Jaipur Tour by Air.
Yes, the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for religious reasons. Please ensure your tour date for the Taj Mahal does not fall on a Friday.
Yes, foreign tourists must show their original passport or a high-quality digital photo at the entrance gates for security identification and monument entry.
Sunrise is the best time to visit the Taj Mahal. The gates open at 6:00 AM and the soft morning light creates the most stunning views. Arrive by 5:30 AM to beat the crowds and get the best photography conditions.
