Reserved seating for Krabi's original cabaret at Ao Nang's Blue Dragon, an hour of sequins, lip-sync spectacle and full-throttle stage performance.

Highlights

  • Krabi's first and best-known cabaret theatre
  • Hand-beaded costumes and rapid-fire costume changes
  • Reserved seating in an air-conditioned auditorium
  • Choreographed numbers from Thai, Western and K-pop hits
  • Photo opportunities with the cast after the show

Full description

Blue Dragon was the first cabaret theatre to open in Krabi and it still sets the standard. The format is Thai cabaret in its classic form: a cast of transgender performers, elaborate costume changes and a run of numbers that swings from Bollywood to K-pop to power ballads, all delivered with a confidence that carries the room.

The production values are the surprise. Costumes are hand-beaded and genuinely extravagant, the lighting rig is properly used, and the choreography is tight rather than casual. Numbers move quickly enough that the hour is over before you notice, and the cast play to the audience throughout, so front rows should expect to be involved.

Your ticket covers reserved seating in the air-conditioned theatre. Performers come out to the lobby afterwards for photographs, a Krabi evening tradition and a nice way to end the night before heading back out onto Ao Nang's main strip for dinner or a drink.

Detailed Itinerary

Doors open about half an hour before curtain, so arriving around 18:30 gives you time to exchange your booking for a ticket at the box office and find your reserved seat without rushing. The auditorium is compact and air-conditioned, and there is no bad sightline in it.

The show itself starts at 19:00 and runs a tight hour. It opens big, cycles through Thai classics, Western pop and K-pop routines, and drops in comedy sketches between the larger production numbers to let the cast change costume. Expect several performers to work the aisles, which is part of the fun if you are seated near the front.

When the curtain falls around 20:00 the cast head out to the lobby for photographs, usually for fifteen or twenty minutes. Ao Nang's restaurants and beach road bars are a two-minute walk away.

An hour of very polished lip-sync and costume changes, and the sequinned headdresses in the opening number were genuinely spectacular. Reserved seating meant we were four rows back with a clear view. Family friendly and a nice change from another beach evening.

Blue Dragon is small so even the back rows are close to the stage. The performers work incredibly hard, ten or so numbers with full costume changes between each. Photos with the cast afterwards are free but a small tip is appreciated.

A good show for the price and the performers are talented. It is only an hour so plan dinner around it rather than treating it as the whole evening. Arrive fifteen minutes early because the reserved seats are allocated on arrival.

We took my parents and all four of us enjoyed it. The music mixes Thai pop with Western numbers so there is something familiar throughout. Drinks are bought separately at the bar inside.

Entertaining and very well costumed, though the venue is warm and the air conditioning struggles when it is full. Central Ao Nang location so easy to walk to from most hotels. Worth the ticket price for an hour of good stagecraft.

Frequently Asked Questions

The performance runs for about one hour. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early — reserved seats are allocated on arrival, so turning up at the last minute means the back rows. The venue is small, so even those seats have a clear view.
Yes. It's a costume and lip-sync cabaret aimed at a general audience — sequins, choreography and big stage numbers rather than adult content. Most families are comfortable bringing school-age children; very young children may find the volume loud.
There is no formal dress code — beachwear-casual is normal in Ao Nang, though a shirt and covered footwear are appreciated. The venue can be warm when full, so light clothing is more comfortable than layers.
The ticket covers reserved show entry only. Drinks are bought separately at the bar inside, and there is no meal. Since the show is only an hour, most people eat before or after at one of the restaurants on the Ao Nang strip.
Photos are generally allowed but flash and video are usually not, and staff will say so before the show starts. Performers come out afterwards for photos with the audience — this is free, though a small tip of 20 to 100 THB is customary and appreciated.
No. The Blue Dragon is centrally located in Ao Nang and is a short walk from most hotels on and around the main strip. If you're staying in Krabi Town, Klong Muang or Railay, plan your own transport and allow for evening traffic.
Shows are indoors so weather is not usually a factor, but performances can be cancelled for low numbers or on some public holidays. In that case you're offered another date or a full refund. Booking is recommended in high season as the venue is small.
