Full description
A power catamaran is a very different way to see the four islands. Twin hulls mean far less roll than a longtail or speedboat, and the trampoline netting slung between them is the best seat in Krabi for watching the limestone stacks slide past.
The cruise builds in a proper snorkelling stop over the reef and a session in transparent kayaks, which let you look straight down at the coral and the fish without putting your face in the water. Crew are in the water with you, so nervous swimmers and children are well looked after.
Food is served aboard rather than eaten out of a box on a crowded beach, and the boat lingers at Phra Nang and Poda long enough for the light to turn. With a five-hour running time it is an easier day than the full island marathons, which makes it a good choice for families and for anyone arriving or leaving Krabi the same day.

Detailed Itinerary
Check-in at Ao Nang Pier is around 13:00 and boarding is straightforward, with a short safety briefing before the catamaran clears the moorings. The first hour is pure sightseeing: the boat runs a slow arc past Chicken Island's rock spire, the sandbar at Tup and Mor, and Poda's white beach, and most people spend it lying on the netting up front.
At about 14:30 the crew drop anchor over the reef and hand out masks. Two crew stay in the water throughout, which makes a real difference for weaker swimmers. An hour later the clear kayaks come off the deck for a paddle along the shoreline where you can see straight down to the seabed.
By 16:15 the meal is served aboard while the boat holds position beneath the Phra Nang cliffs in the best light of the day, and the catamaran is back at Ao Nang by around 17:30.

After doing a longtail earlier in the week the catamaran was a completely different experience. Barely any bouncing, shade when you want it, and lying on the trampoline netting over the water is worth the upgrade alone. Five hours was the right length.
The clear kayaks are a gimmick that actually works, you can see the fish under you the whole time around Tup Island. Food was served properly on board rather than balanced on your knees on a beach. Good option if you want the four islands without the chaos.
Stable enough that my wife, who normally cannot handle boats, was fine all day. Snorkelling stop off Poda had good visibility and the crew got in the water with us. Fewer stops than a full day trip but each one felt unhurried.
Comfortable boat and a lovely crew. There were around forty of us aboard, so the clear kayaks work on rotation and you get maybe twenty minutes with one. Manage expectations on that and it is still a great half day.
Better value than it looks once you factor in the food, the kayaks and not being soaked by spray for five hours. The sandbar at Tup was fully exposed when we arrived and we walked most of the way across. Freshwater rinse on board was a nice touch.
We travelled with a toddler and the catamaran made that possible, there is space to move around and a shaded deck. Crew were watchful without hovering. Chicken Island from the water at midday is worth the trip on its own.
