The Free-Entry Rule: What Actually Counts as a Hanbok
Anyone wearing a hanbok — your own or rented — gets into Gyeongbokgung Palace for free, instead of paying the standard adult admission of around ₩3,000. The rule is specific, though: it requires a proper jeogori (the fitted upper garment) paired with a matching lower garment, a skirt or pants, worn as an actual outfit. Borrowing just a hairpiece, a decorative accessory, or a loosely draped scarf-like item does not qualify for free entry, and staff at the gate do check.
This makes a rental shop visit before the palace a genuinely practical first stop, not just a photo-op add-on — you save the admission fee and get the full visual experience at the same time.
