This is a genuinely ethical sanctuary — no elephant riding, no chains, no performances. The elephants roam freely in a lush jungle setting and you interact with them on their terms. The sanctuary rescues elephants from logging camps and tourist attractions, giving them a peaceful retirement.
Your day starts with hotel pickup in Bangkok between 6:30-7:30 AM. After arriving at the sanctuary, you'll change into traditional mahout clothing and meet the elephants. Walk alongside them through the jungle, hand-feed them bananas and sugarcane, and learn about each elephant's rescue story from the caretakers.
The highlight is bathing the elephants in the mud pool and river — they love it, and it's an unforgettable experience getting splashed by a happy elephant. After washing off, enjoy a Thai lunch prepared by the sanctuary staff.

Your driver picks you up from your central Bangkok hotel in an air-conditioned minivan. The drive to Chonburi takes about 90 minutes via the motorway. Relax, sleep, or enjoy the changing scenery as you leave the city behind.
Welcome & Elephant Introduction | 08:30 to 09:00
Arrive at Living Green Elephant Sanctuary, nestled in a green valley surrounded by jungle. Change into traditional mahout (elephant keeper) clothing — loose pants and a shirt. The head caretaker gives a briefing on the sanctuary's rescue mission and introduces the elephants by name, explaining where each one came from and how they ended up here.
Feeding & Jungle Walk | 09:00 to 10:30
This is where it gets real. You'll stand face-to-face with the elephants and hand-feed them baskets of bananas, sugarcane, and watermelon. They're gentle but enthusiastic eaters. Then walk alongside them on jungle trails as they forage naturally — no chains, no hooks. The caretakers share stories about each elephant's personality and quirks.
Mud Bath & River Bathing | 10:30 to 11:30
The absolute highlight. The elephants head to the mud pool and you join them — literally getting into the mud and helping spread it on their skin (it's like sunscreen for them). Then move to the river where you wash them off with buckets of water while they spray you with their trunks. You will get soaked. Bring a change of clothes and a waterproof phone case.
Thai Lunch | 11:30 to 12:15
The sanctuary serves a traditional Thai lunch — pad thai, green curry, rice, fresh fruit. Vegetarian and vegan options available. Eat in a covered area overlooking the sanctuary grounds while the elephants rest in the shade nearby.
Afternoon & Return | 12:15 to 14:30
Spend final time with the elephants before boarding the van for the 90-minute return to Bangkok. You'll be back at your hotel by 2:30-3:00 PM — still time for an evening activity.

Took the kids (8 and 11) and it was the highlight of our Thailand holiday. Feeding the elephants by hand and bathing them had them grinning all day. The staff were so patient and made sure everyone was safe. Great that it's a proper sanctuary and not a riding camp. Easy pickup from our hotel too.
