Which Islands Can You Visit from Phuket?
Phuket sits at the northern end of the Andaman Sea's most spectacular island archipelago. Within a 2-hour speedboat radius, you can access over 50 islands ranging from world-famous destinations to uninhabited beaches with no facilities whatsoever.
The 'Big Three' island destinations:
1. [Phi Phi Islands](/thailand/phuket/phi-phi-islands) (~45 km southeast)
The most popular destination. Two main islands: Phi Phi Don (inhabited, beaches, snorkelling) and Phi Phi Leh (uninhabited, containing Maya Bay). The best overall island experience — turquoise water, white sand, dramatic limestone cliffs, and excellent snorkelling. Full day required. See our complete Phi Phi guide.
2. [Phang Nga Bay](/thailand/phuket/phang-nga-bay) (~70 km north)
Not a beach destination — a geological wonder. Over 40 limestone karst islands, sea cave canoeing through hongs, James Bond Island, and Koh Panyee floating village. The most intellectually and visually stimulating island experience in the region. Full day required.
3. Racha Islands (Racha Yai & Racha Noi) (~15 km south)
The closest islands to Phuket. Excellent for diving and snorkelling. Racha Yai has a beautiful sandy bay with calm water. Racha Noi is uninhabited with advanced dive sites including encounters with manta rays and whale sharks (seasonal). Half or full day trip.
