Bangkok Tuk-Tuk Night Tour: Chinatown Street Food & Temple Trail
Full description
Experience Bangkok's most electrifying neighbourhood after dark — Chinatown (Yaowarat Road) — by tuk-tuk with a local guide who knows every back alley and food stall worth stopping at.
Your evening starts with a tuk-tuk ride through the neon-lit streets of Yaowarat, Bangkok's oldest and most atmospheric neighbourhood. The energy after dark is incredible — hundreds of street food stalls fire up, Chinese-Thai vendors compete for customers, and the narrow sois (lanes) buzz with locals eating dinner.
Your guide leads you to their favourite food stops — think fresh-grilled seafood, char siu pork, mango sticky rice, Thai-style pad thai cooked over charcoal, and crispy roti with condensed milk. Several stops are Michelin Bib Gourmand-recommended. You'll eat your way through 5-6 tastings over the evening.
Between food stops, visit Wat Traimit — home to the world's largest solid gold Buddha statue, weighing 5.5 tonnes. The temple is less crowded at night and the golden statue is stunning under evening lighting.
The tour also takes you to Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok's famous 24-hour flower market, where mountains of jasmine, orchids, and marigolds are being sorted and bundled for the next morning's deliveries.
The tuk-tuk rides between stops are half the fun — weaving through traffic with the warm night air and Chinatown's neon reflected everywhere.
Tour Itinerary
The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.
Meet & First Tuk-Tuk Ride
Meet your guide at MRT Wat Mangkon Exit 1. Board your tuk-tuk and ride into the heart of Yaowarat Road as the neon signs light up and the street food stalls begin firing.
Street Food Tastings (Rounds 1-3)
Your guide takes you to three hand-picked food stalls — fresh-grilled seafood, classic pad thai cooked over charcoal, and crispy pork with rice. Several are Michelin Bib Gourmand-recommended. Eat standing at the counter like a local.
Wat Traimit (Golden Buddha)
Visit the temple housing the world's largest solid gold Buddha — 5.5 tonnes of pure gold. Less crowded at night, the statue glows under the temple lighting. Your guide explains how the golden Buddha was accidentally discovered inside a plaster shell in 1955.
Street Food Tastings (Rounds 4-6)
More food — mango sticky rice, char siu BBQ pork, and a dessert stop for Thai-style roti with condensed milk or a bowl of traditional Chinese-Thai dessert soup.
Flower Market
Tuk-tuk to Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok's famous 24-hour flower market. Walk through mountains of jasmine, orchids, roses, and marigolds being sorted for morning deliveries. A riot of colour and fragrance.
Final Tuk-Tuk Ride & End
One last tuk-tuk ride through the glowing Chinatown streets back to the MRT station. Tour ends at Wat Mangkon MRT around 9:30 PM.
Detailed Itinerary
Meet at MRT Wat Mangkon | 18:30
Meet your guide at Exit 1 of MRT Wat Mangkon station (Blue Line). They'll be holding a sign. Quick introductions, then straight into your tuk-tuk for the ride into Chinatown. Yaowarat Road at dusk is sensory overload — neon Chinese characters, smoke from grills, the sound of woks hitting flames.
First Food Stops | 18:45 to 19:45
Three back-to-back tastings at your guide's favourite stalls. Fresh seafood grilled in front of you, pad thai cooked over charcoal (not the tourist version — this is the real thing), and crispy pork belly with rice. Your guide explains each dish's origin and what makes these specific stalls special. Several have Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition.
Golden Buddha Temple | 19:45 to 20:10
Walk to Wat Traimit, tucked just off Yaowarat Road. Inside is the world's largest solid gold Buddha statue — 5.5 tonnes of gold, valued at approximately $250 million. The statue was hidden inside a plaster shell for centuries until a crane accident in 1955 cracked the plaster and revealed the gold beneath. The temple is less crowded in the evening and the gold gleams beautifully under the lights.
More Food | 20:15 to 21:00
Round two of eating. Mango sticky rice from a vendor who's been making it for 30+ years. Char siu BBQ pork hanging in a shopfront window. Finish with a Thai-Chinese dessert — either crispy roti drizzled with condensed milk or a warm taro soup.
Flower Market | 21:00 to 21:20
Tuk-tuk to Pak Khlong Talat, the 24-hour wholesale flower market. At this hour, workers are unloading trucks and sorting millions of flowers into bundles. The colours and smells are incredible — jasmine garlands, lotus flowers, marigolds by the thousands.
End | 21:30
Final tuk-tuk ride back to MRT Wat Mangkon. Tour ends around 9:30 PM — early enough for a rooftop bar or late enough to head home satisfied.
