Full description
This is the Bangkok you came for: real canal life, great city views, and the royal landmarks everyone wants to see. Join Discova’s freshly upgraded classic Bangkok experience as you move from the canals to one of the city’s best viewpoints at the Golden Mount, and then on to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, completing a route that brings Bangkok’s most iconic areas together in one perfect experience.
Meet your guide at BTS Ratchathewi Exit 1 & 3 (bus stop near BTS Ratchathewi Exit 1 & 3) then take a short walk to Hua Chang Pier and hop on a public boat and glide along Saen Saep, passing through local Muslim communities around the Jim Thompson house that have lived along the canal for generations. Then, step off near the edge of the Old Town and walk into a different Bangkok. Along the way, we’ll pass near sections tied to the original town walls and a small white fort, and if you’re lucky you might even spot a monitor lizard cruising the water at a canal crossroads.
Then it’s time for one of the best views in the city: Wat Saket, the Golden Mount. Climb the winding steps, ring the bells, and watch the skyline open up in every direction! Your guide keeps it light but meaningful: a simple introduction to Buddhist symbols you’ll see throughout the day, and why this hilltop temple is known as the “Golden Mountain.”
From here, jump into a classic tuk-tuk ride and head straight to Bangkok’s royal heart: arriving at the Grand Palace, your licensed guide leads you through the most important sections of Thailand’s former royal residence, including visiting the revered Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most sacred image. By the end of the visit, you will understand why such a small image holds such deep importance in Thai culture. After exploring the palace, continue on foot to nearby Wat Pho, one of Bangkok’s oldest and most significant temple complexes. Visit the hall of the Reclining Buddha, then continue through courtyards lined with chedis and murals as your guide leads you beyond the main statue to explore the wider temple grounds and understand why Wat Pho holds such an important place in Thai Buddhist tradition.
Your tour ends at Wat Pho, but this part of Bangkok is perfect to keep exploring on your own. You can stay in the area for a relaxed lunch at a riverside café with views of Wat Arun, or simply hop on the quick ferry across the river if you’d like to visit it. From here, you’re in one of the most walkable and atmospheric corners of the Old Town!

Detailed Itinerary
Experience the Bangkok that visitors dream of—historic canals, breathtaking city views, magnificent royal landmarks, and centuries of fascinating stories. This upgraded classic tour by Discova brings together the city's most iconic attractions in one seamless journey, offering the perfect introduction to Bangkok's rich history, vibrant culture, and enduring traditions.
Your adventure begins at BTS Ratchathewi Station (Exits 1 & 3), where you'll meet your expert local guide before taking a short walk to Hua Chang Pier. From here, board a public canal boat and cruise along Saen Saep Canal, one of Bangkok's busiest waterways. As you travel through neighborhoods rarely seen by most visitors, you'll pass traditional wooden houses and local Muslim communities that have lived along these canals for generations near the historic Jim Thompson House. This unique journey offers an authentic glimpse into everyday life along Bangkok's waterways, where old traditions continue to thrive alongside the modern city.
Leaving the canal behind, continue on foot into Bangkok's historic Old Town. Along the route, you'll pass areas connected to the city's original defensive walls and a charming white riverside fort that once helped protect the capital. Keep an eye on the water—you may even spot one of Bangkok's famous monitor lizards quietly swimming through the canals.
Next, visit one of Bangkok's finest viewpoints at Wat Saket, better known as the Golden Mount. Climb the gently winding staircase to the gleaming golden chedi while passing rows of ringing bells and peaceful shrines. At the summit, enjoy spectacular panoramic views stretching across Bangkok's skyline, where historic temples rise among modern skyscrapers. Your guide will introduce you to the significance of Buddhist symbols found throughout the temple and explain why this sacred hilltop sanctuary has long been known as the "Golden Mountain."
After descending the mount, experience one of Bangkok's most iconic forms of transportation with an exciting ride in a traditional tuk-tuk. Travel through the bustling streets toward the city's historic royal district, arriving at the magnificent Grand Palace, one of Thailand's most treasured landmarks.
Accompanied by your licensed guide, explore the highlights of the former royal residence while learning about the Thai monarchy, royal ceremonies, and the remarkable architecture that defines the palace complex. Visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, home to Thailand's most sacred Buddhist image. Although modest in size, the Emerald Buddha holds immense spiritual importance, and your guide will explain its central role in Thai culture and national identity.
Continue your journey with a short walk to nearby Wat Pho, one of Bangkok's oldest and most revered temples. Marvel at the impressive Reclining Buddha, covered in shimmering gold leaf and stretching 46 meters in length. Beyond this famous statue, wander through peaceful courtyards filled with elegant chedis, beautifully decorated halls, and intricate murals as your guide reveals the temple's importance as a center of Buddhist learning and traditional Thai massage.
Your guided experience concludes at Wat Pho, leaving you perfectly positioned to continue exploring Bangkok's historic riverside district at your own pace. Relax over lunch at a nearby riverside café with wonderful views of Wat Arun, or take the short ferry ride across the Chao Phraya River to visit the iconic Temple of Dawn. Surrounded by charming streets, local cafés, markets, and centuries of history, this atmospheric corner of Bangkok invites you to discover even more long after the tour has ended.
