Instead of adjusting your plans in disappointment, enjoy a professionally guided itinerary covering Agra Fort, Baby Taj (Itimad-ud-Daulah), and the iconic Mehtab Bagh sunset view of the Taj Mahal.
This tour is ideal for travelers searching “what to do in Agra on Friday” or “Taj Mahal closed alternative tour.” Every stop is thoughtfully selected because it remains open on Fridays and delivers architectural brilliance, history, and unforgettable views.
08:30 AM – Hotel Pickup & Introduction to Agra’s Mughal Legacy
Your private local guide will meet you at your hotel or preferred pickup location in Agra. After a short introduction, you’ll begin your Friday sightseeing tour with a brief overview of Mughal history, Emperor Shah Jahan, and how Agra became the capital of one of the most powerful empires in the world.
As you drive through the city, your guide will also explain why the Taj Mahal remains closed on Fridays and how today’s itinerary has been designed specifically to give you a complete and meaningful Agra experience.
09:00 AM – Agra Fort Guided Exploration
Your first major stop is the magnificent Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important Mughal monuments in India. Built in red sandstone, this grand fortress served as the royal residence before the Taj Mahal was constructed.
During your guided tour of Agra Fort, you will explore:
Jahangir Palace
Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience)
Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience)
Musamman Burj (where Shah Jahan was imprisoned)
From the fort’s balconies, you’ll enjoy distant views of the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna River — a powerful moment that connects both monuments historically and visually.
Your guide will provide deep insight into Mughal court life, architecture, and political intrigue, making this far more than just a sightseeing stop.
12:30 PM – Optional Lunch Break & Local Market Exploration
After exploring Agra Fort, you’ll have the option to enjoy lunch at a recommended local restaurant. Agra is famous for Mughlai cuisine, including rich curries, freshly baked breads, and traditional sweets.
If you prefer, you can also explore Sadar Bazaar or local handicraft markets known for marble inlay art inspired by the Taj Mahal.
Your guide will ensure you avoid tourist traps and provide honest recommendations.
02:00 PM – Baby Taj (Itimad-ud-Daulah) Visit
Next, you’ll visit the elegant tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, commonly known as the “Baby Taj.” This exquisite marble mausoleum is considered the architectural predecessor to the Taj Mahal.
Unlike the larger monument, Baby Taj offers:
Intricate marble inlay work
Delicate lattice screens
Peaceful riverside gardens
Fewer crowds
Your guide will explain how this monument introduced white marble architecture that later influenced the Taj Mahal’s design. It’s one of the most underrated yet beautiful monuments in Agra and a perfect Friday alternative.
04:30 PM – Mehtab Bagh Sunset Taj View
The highlight of your Agra Friday tour is Mehtab Bagh, a serene Mughal garden located directly across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal.
Although entry inside the Taj is not permitted on Fridays, Mehtab Bagh offers one of the best panoramic sunset views of the monument. This location is especially popular with photographers seeking crowd-free shots and symmetrical reflections.
Here, you’ll:
Capture stunning sunset photos
Learn about Shah Jahan’s original garden alignment plans
Enjoy a calm, less crowded atmosphere
This experience often becomes the most memorable part of the Friday itinerary.
06:30 PM – Return to Hotel
After sunset, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel. If requested, recommendations for dinner, rooftop Taj view restaurants, or additional evening activities can be provided.
By the end of the day, you will have explored Agra’s top monuments that remain open on Friday while still experiencing breathtaking views of the Taj Mahal.

Traveler Reviews
We didnt realize the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays until we arrived in Agra. Thankfully we found this Friday alternative tour and it was actually brilliant. Agra Fort was the main stop and our guide spent 2 hours there covering every detail. Baby Taj (Itimad-ud-Daulah) was gorgeous and less crowded than the Taj ever is. The sunset at Mehtab Bagh with the Taj Mahal silhouetted against the sky was one of the most beautiful sights of our trip. A great way to spend a Friday in Agra.
We specifically planned our Agra visit around this Friday tour since we knew the Taj would be closed. The tour covered Agra Fort thoroughly, which is an incredible monument in its own right with stunning halls and gardens. Baby Taj was a highlight, the marble inlay work is arguably more detailed than the Taj itself. The sunset at Mehtab Bagh gave us views of the Taj from across the river without needing to enter. Only 4 stars as the afternoon heat was intense between sites.
Turned our Friday disappointment into a wonderful day. This tour was thoughtfully designed to show you the best of Agra when the Taj is closed for prayers. Agra Fort was massive and our guide took us through sections I had never seen in photos. Baby Taj was exquisite, the marble lattice screens are works of art. But the real highlight was the Mehtab Bagh sunset, watching the sun set behind the Taj Mahal from across the Yamuna river was absolutley stunning. Glad we booked this instead of just skipping Agra.
If you're stuck in Agra on a Friday dont despair, this tour is fantastic. We visited Agra Fort, Baby Taj, and Mehtab Bagh and honestly learned more about Mughal history than we would have just doing the Taj Mahal. The guide was knowledgable about the fort's military and residential sections. Baby Taj has the most intricate pietra dura work in all of Agra. The sunset at Mehtab Bagh was the perfect ending, seeing the Taj silhouetted against the orange sky. Definately reccomend this Friday alternative.
