Zekreet's Rock Formations: A Landscape Unlike Anywhere Else in Qatar
The Zekreet peninsula on Qatar's west coast holds a cluster of eroded limestone rock formations, shaped over millennia by wind and water into dramatic, often mushroom-like or pedestal shapes rising abruptly from otherwise flat desert — a landscape genuinely unlike the dune fields most visitors associate with Qatar's desert. The area also hosts rotating large-scale outdoor art installations as part of Qatar Museums' broader public art program, adding a contemporary layer on top of the natural geology.
The formations are scattered enough that a guided visit, rather than a self-navigated stop, helps make sure you actually find the most striking examples rather than missing them in the open terrain.
