Full description

Take a deep dive into Bangkok's nighttime food scene on this walking tour through the backstreets of Chinatown (Yaowarat) — one of the greatest street-food destinations on earth.

As the sun goes down, Yaowarat Road transforms. Charcoal grills fire up, woks start roaring, and the narrow side-sois fill with the smell of grilled seafood, simmering broths, and caramelising sugar. This is where Bangkokians come to eat, and on this tour you'll follow a local food guide past the obvious tourist stalls and into the hidden corners where the real cooking happens.

Over the course of the evening you'll enjoy 15+ tastings — the most variety of any food tour in the city. You'll graze your way through bustling markets, family-run street stalls, and tucked-away eateries, sampling everything from Thai-Chinese classics to regional specialities and traditional sweets. Along the way your guide shares the stories behind the dishes: how Chinatown shaped Bangkok's food culture, which families have run their stalls for generations, and what to order on your next visit.

It's a relaxed, social, walk-and-eat experience in a small group — perfect for curious eaters who want to understand Bangkok through its food, not just photograph it. Come with an empty stomach: by the end you will be very, very full.

Detailed Itinerary

Meet at Shanghai Mansion Bangkok | Evening

Your evening begins in the lobby of Shanghai Mansion in the heart of Chinatown, where you'll meet your local food guide and the rest of your small group. Your guide sets the scene — a quick orientation to Yaowarat and what's ahead — before you head out on foot into the buzzing streets.

Yaowarat Road Street Stalls | ~1 hour

Start with the icons of Bangkok's most famous food street. You'll work through a series of street-stall tastings — grilled and wok-fried dishes cooked to order right in front of you — while your guide explains the history of the strip and how to spot the best vendors.

Backstreets & Hidden Local Eateries | ~1.5 hours

Leave the main road and duck into the side-sois most visitors walk straight past. Here, in family-run shophouses and tucked-away kitchens, you'll taste time-honoured recipes and Thai-Chinese specialities that rarely make it onto a menu in English.

Market Tastings | ~1 hour

Wander a local market to sample fresh produce, grilled snacks, and regional bites, and to see where the neighbourhood shops for its ingredients.

Sweet Finish | ~30 minutes

Round off your 15+ tastings the Chinatown way — with traditional Thai-Chinese desserts and sweets.

Arrive back at Shanghai Mansion Bangkok

The tour ends back where it started, full and happy, with a pocketful of recommendations for the rest of your trip.

Our tour with Johnny and Butter was amazing! Not only did we get to try so many delicious dishes we would’ve never thought to order, but we learned so much about the flavor profiles, cultural backgrounds, etc. about each dish and restaurant along the way (highly entertaining). Additionally, they accommodated our dietary restrictions perfectly (always offered an alternative and made sure to check in with us at every stop) and were so thoughtful about providing water, napkins, wet wipes, ponchos w

Johnny and Muay were great. Very enthusiastic and informative about the dishes we tried. Even gave us tips on how to make on our own. Very fun and just the right amount of food to feel full but not stuffed.

This tour goes down as one of the best food tours I've ever been on. Anja was outstanding as was her assistant Ms Om. Anja gave so much information along the way and was so engaging and always checking everyone was OK along the way. Small group made all the difference and when they say "come hungry"...they mean it for good reason and there was always more than enough at each tasting. Highly, highly recommended! Thank you Anja & Ms Om for an unforgettable experience!!!🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
