Taksim and Beyoğlu: The Density Center
Taksim Square and the surrounding Beyoğlu district form Istanbul's densest concentration of bars, clubs and meyhane (traditional taverns), with İstiklal Street, the long pedestrian avenue running from Taksim down toward Galata, as the main spine. Side streets off İstiklal, particularly around Nevizade, are packed with meyhane serving meze and rakı alongside live Turkish folk and pop music performed tableside — a genuinely different nightlife register from a standard bar crawl, built around shared food and drink rather than just drinking.
Beyoğlu also holds Istanbul's most internationally-styled nightclubs and late bars, catering to both a young local crowd and the city's substantial tourist nightlife traffic.
