Das Echo unter der Kuppel
Stellen Sie sich in die Mittelkammer und hören Sie. Die Kuppel über den Kenotaphen ist doppelschalig, und der Raum zwischen innerer und äußerer Kuppel gibt der Kammer einen Nachhall von knapp einer halben Minute: ein gehaltener und freigegebener Ton hängt dort noch lange, nachdem der Mensch aufgehört hat zu singen.
Mogulberichte beschreiben, dass genau deshalb in dieser Kammer Verse rezitiert wurden. Wächter bringen Sie heute zum Schweigen, Sie hören es also am Husten eines anderen statt an Ihrer eigenen Stimme, aber es ist das Einzige am Taj, das man mit den Ohren erlebt.
Taj Mahal

Shah Jahan begann ihn 1632, im Jahr nachdem Mumtaz Mahal bei der Geburt ihres vierzehnten Kindes gestorben war. Zweiundzwanzig Jahre, zwanzigtausend Arbeiter, Marmor über 400 km von Makrana herangekarrt.
Ihr Guide behandelt die Kalligrafie, in wachsenden Größen geschnitten, damit sie vom Boden aus gleich hoch erscheint, die Pietra-dura-Einlagen mit Dutzenden Steinen pro Blüte, die vier Minarette, nach außen geneigt, damit ein Erdbeben sie neben das Grabmal fallen ließe, und die einzige Asymmetrie der ganzen Komposition.
Agra Fort
Akbars Stadt aus rotem Sandstein von 1565 mit Shah Jahans Marmorpalästen darin, und der Musamman Burj, wo Aurangzeb ihn die letzten acht Jahre seines Lebens gefangen hielt, den Taj sichtbar am Fluss.
Itimad-ud-Daulah, der Baby Taj
Jenseits der Yamuna: das Grabmal, das Nur Jahan für ihren Vater errichten ließ, 1622-1628. Das erste ganz marmorne Mogulbauwerk und das erste in Indien, das Pietra dura verwendet, kleiner als der Taj, dichter eingelegt, und fast immer leer.

This was a fantastic eat to see the sights of Agra as well as get the detailed information around each site. Nekram brought to life the history. He was an excellent tour guide, thoughtful and never rushed us. He also took many pictures on phone for us which were an added bonus. I would not hesitate in recommending Nekram as a tour guide. A wonderful time was had by the both us.

We also had a very good driver - we always felt safe despite the traffic being rather chaotic due to building works in the city. Just be prepared for a stop a local company where you learn a lot about the art of marble inlaying (which was great!!) but also slightly pushy sales people (for European standards). 😉

It was an excellent tour. We only had one day and we were picked up at our homestay, very nice. We also went to a marble and a gemstone factory, both were also very nice. The guide also dropped us off at a very good restaurant for a lunch. We had a very nice day!
