Einer der saubersten Flüsse Indiens, 80 km vom Taj

Der Chambal hat eine seltsame Geschichte: jahrhundertelang waren die Schluchten an seinem Lauf Räuberland, weshalb hier niemand Fabriken oder Städte baute. Das Ergebnis: Während die Yamuna in Agra zu Indiens stärker verschmutzten Flüssen zählt, gehört der Chambal eine Stunde entfernt zu den saubersten, und er beherbergt Wildtiere, die fast überall sonst verschwunden sind.

Die Safari

Eine zwei- bis dreistündige Bootsfahrt mit einem englischsprachigen Naturführer, auf einem flachen Boot, das langsam und leise fährt.

Gangesgaviale sind der Grund, warum die meisten kommen, das fischfressende Krokodil mit der langen schmalen Schnauze und dem Knubbel am Ende. Es gibt in der Wildnis noch etwa 650 fortpflanzungsfähige Erwachsene, und rund drei Viertel von ihnen leben in diesem Schutzgebiet. Sie werden sie in Zahl auf den Sandbänken liegen sehen.

Sumpfkrokodile teilen sich das Wasser mit ihnen und sind von beiden die gefährlicheren, allerdings nicht für ein Boot.

Ganges-Flussdelfine gibt es hier ebenfalls, blind, im Süßwasser lebend, mit Echoortung, und Indiens nationales Wassertier. Sichtungen sind real, aber nicht garantiert; sie tauchen nur kurz auf, und man braucht Geduld.

Vögel sind die unterschätzte Hälfte der Fahrt: Indische Scherenschnäbel, die mit der unteren Schnabelhälfte die Wasserfläche durchschneiden, Streifengänse im Winter, Saruskraniche, Schwarzbauch-Seeschwalben, und die Rotkronen-Dachschildkröte, die auf jedem Treibholz sonnt.

Praktisch

Rund sieben Stunden von Tür zu Tür mit 80 km Fahrt je Strecke in einem privaten klimatisierten Wagen. Mittagessen ist enthalten.

Die Jahreszeit zählt. November bis März ist das richtige Fenster: das Wasser ist niedrig und klar, die Sandbänke liegen frei, und die Zugvögel sind da. Die Monsunmonate sind schlecht und die Fahrt kann unmöglich sein.

Bringen Sie ein Fernglas mit, falls Sie eines haben, einen Hut und Sonnenschutz; auf dem Wasser gibt es keinen Schatten.

Die Flusssafari war aussergewoehnlich schoen. Der Tourguide kannte alle Vogelarten, und ich sah Krokodile, Schildkroeten, seltene Voegel und badente Kuehe und Ochsen. Jeder, der in der Naehe sich befindet, sollte diese Tour machen. Der Tourguide und der Fahrer waren sehr professionnel. Der Lunch in der Chambal Wildlife Safari Lodge war ausgezeichnet gut, und insgesamt verbrachte ich einen unvergesslichen Tag. Vielen Dank an den Tourguide und den Fahrer, aber auch das gute Essen in der Chambal Wildlife Safari Lodge, fuer den Tag, an den ich mich immer erinnern werde.
