From Agra: SOS Elephant Conservation & Bear Rescue Day Trip

this was an amazing experience! My guide Sunny spoken great English. He helped me organise a taxi back to Delhi after the tour. Both rescue centres were very impressive and informative. My guide at the elephant centre Raj was very passionate about his work with elephants, easy going and knew each elephant on a very personal level. If you’re coming to Agra for the Taj Mahal you must do this tour as well!
The day with our guide Sunny was wonderful but also thought provoking. Both, at the elephant rescue centre as well as the bear sanctuary we learnt a lot about animal welfare. The teams there do an amazing work! Yes, Agra is all about the main sights but I would wholeheartedly recommend doing this tour as well. It moved our hearts and we will definitely never ride an Elephant! Thank you Sunny for taking care of us and showing us a side of India beyond the beaten tourist tracks - the memories will stay with us forever. 🤗
The conservation centers are awesome. It is wonderful to see how they care for the animals and treat them with the kindness and respect they truly deserve. You should totally visit the centers if you can because it's an unforgettable experience
Sunny picked us up from our hotel and was so friendly and informative on the way to the sanctuary. Vishan was our guide at the sanctuary and was also friendly, full of information & also clearly cared deeply for the elephants. The keepers fed the elephants and took them for a walk and we were able to watch and we learned so much about the sanctuary saves elephants who are treated so badly in captivity.
This tour is absolutely worth every penny you should spend on it! We were picked up by our hotel and driven to the Elephant sanctuary, where we learned the terrible history of some of them, and saw how well they are doing now that they have been rescued. We also saw the bear sanctuary, and I have nothing but praise for these people, they are doing an amazing job with the animals, and do a fantastic job at tellling their stories. It is clear from the tour that SOS Wildlife cares so much for these animals. Absolutely amazing.
It was great. Everything went smoothly, the driver was very good & Sunny was a great guide. I would recommend this trip to anyone visiting Agra. It was great hearing about the amazing work of Wildlife SOS & wonderful to see these amazing creatures & learn about them. The guides in the individual sanctuaries were also very good. Wildlife SOS needs support to continue it's work. Please do not support exploitation of elephants by the tourist trade.
This tour is a MUST, to understand and see the good that local Indian people are doing for elephants and bears. This is not a Zoo or a theme park. It is purely conservation. My guide Sunny was a huge help, he also paid for my metro ticket because traffic was very bad. Bobby the driver was the most patient driver in India i have seen Do yourself a favour and do this tour.
Was just perfect. A very important activity. Must to see. The guide was awesome
Guide was very informative and explained about what they are about. Was lovely seeing them up close. A good place to visit
The activity was great! The driver and the guide were flexible and could pick up outside my accommodation! The guide was very engaging and knew averting you wanted to know about Agra. The rescue centers were amazing. The tours are for educational purpose and really gave you an insight in how these animals have been treated and why they are at the rescue center. Their work is purely dedicated to the animals’ well being and the guides were very good.
If you are visiting Agra for the Taj Mahal, please also visit the SOS Elephant & Bear Rescue Centres. They ended up being one of the most meaningful parts of our India trip. These are not zoos. The animals here have been rescued from horrific cruelty, elephants forced to beg, perform or give rides for years & sloth bears abused for “dancing” entertainment. Seeing them finally safe, cared for & able to simply exist peacefully is incredibly emotional. What makes these sanctuaries special is the focus on welfare & rehabilitation, not tourist entertainment. The staff are so passionate, knowledgeable & committed to the animals. You learn a lot about wildlife exploitation in India, but also the progress being made to end it. The elephants have medical care, enrichment & companionship. Many are elderly, injured or traumatised, yet are finally able to live with dignity & safety. The gift shop also has lovely unusual merchandise. If you choose one ethical activity near Agra, make it this.
