Al fuerte de Agra se le trata como lo que se ve después del Taj. Merece más. Akbar lo construyó en arenisca roja a partir de 1565, Shah Jahan rehízo buena parte del interior en mármol blanco, y fue sede del poder mogol durante más tiempo del que el Taj lleva existiendo.
Una hora con un guía basta para cubrirlo bien si se va a un ritmo razonable.
Qué ves
La puerta de Amar Singh y su acceso, construidos con un giro en ángulo recto y una rampa precisamente para impedir que los elefantes de guerra cogieran impulso contra la puerta interior. El Diwan-i-Am, la sala de audiencias públicas, donde el emperador escuchaba las peticiones de cualquiera que se presentara. El palacio de Jahangir, el mayor edificio residencial del fuerte, que mezcla diseño hindú y centroasiático por política deliberada y no por casualidad.
Y el Musamman Burj, la torre octogonal de mármol con vista abierta sobre el Yamuna. Shah Jahan estuvo aquí confinado los últimos ocho años de su vida por su hijo Aurangzeb, mirando la tumba que había construido para Mumtaz Mahal. Es un paseo corto y una historia muy larga.
