El eco bajo la cúpula
Póngase en la cámara central y escuche. La cúpula sobre los cenotafios es de doble casco, y el espacio entre la cúpula interior y la exterior da a la cámara una reverberación que corre cerca de medio minuto: una nota sostenida y soltada queda colgada ahí mucho después de que la persona haya dejado de cantar.
Las crónicas mogolas describen versos recitados en esa cámara exactamente por esa razón. Hoy los guardias le harán callar, así que lo oirá por la tos de otra persona y no por su propia voz, pero es lo único del Taj que se experimenta con los oídos.
Taj Mahal
Recogida donde se aloje en Agra, con entrada reservada por adelantado, así que va al carril y no a la taquilla.
Shah Jahan lo empezó en 1632, el año siguiente a la muerte de Mumtaz Mahal al dar a luz a su decimocuarto hijo. Veintidós años, veinte mil obreros, mármol acarreado 400 km desde Makrana.
Su guía cubre la caligrafía labrada en tamaños crecientes para que se lea a una altura uniforme desde el suelo, las incrustaciones de pietra dura con decenas de piedras por flor, los cuatro alminares inclinados hacia fuera para que un terremoto los dejara caer lejos de la tumba, y la única asimetría de toda la composición.
El Fuerte de Agra
La ciudad de arenisca roja de Akbar, de 1565, con los palacios de mármol de Shah Jahan dentro, y el Musamman Burj, donde Aurangzeb lo encerró los últimos ocho años de su vida, con el Taj visible río abajo.
Itimad-ud-Daulah, el Baby Taj
Al otro lado del Yamuna: la tumba que Nur Jahan mandó levantar para su padre, 1622-1628. El primer edificio mogol enteramente de mármol y el primero en la India en usar pietra dura, más pequeño que el Taj, con incrustación más densa, y casi siempre vacío.

This was a fantastic eat to see the sights of Agra as well as get the detailed information around each site. Nekram brought to life the history. He was an excellent tour guide, thoughtful and never rushed us. He also took many pictures on phone for us which were an added bonus. I would not hesitate in recommending Nekram as a tour guide. We had a wonderful day with our guide Ankur exploring the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj. He handled all the ticketing very well, no waiting times, took photos, answered our endless stream of questions, and told us a lot about the history of all the monuments. 🤗 Ankur is very knowledgeable and a lovely person to be around. We also had a very good driver - we always felt safe despite the traffic being rather chaotic due to building works in the city. Just be prepared for a stop a local company where you learn a lot about the art of marble inlaying (which was great!!) but also slightly pushy sales people (for European standards). 😉

It was an excellent tour. We only had one day and we were picked up at our homestay, very nice. We also went to a marble and a gemstone factory, both were also very nice. The guide also dropped us off at a very good restaurant for a lunch. We had a very nice day!
