Un guía explica el edificio. Un fotógrafo sabe que el banco por el que todos hacen cola está mal orientado a las nueve de la mañana, y que el arco del lado oeste de la mezquita encuadra la cúpula mejor que cualquier cosa del eje central.

Esta visita envía a los dos, que es una idea pequeña que cambia mucho lo que se lleva uno a casa.

Lo que hace el fotógrafo

Le fotografía, en lugar de darle consejos. Usted no sostiene la cámara, que es la razón real por la que las fotos del Taj de la mayoría de la gente muestran el Taj y no a la gente en el Taj.

El set habitual: el banco de Diana en el eje central, el reflejo en el canal largo de agua, una silueta contra el amanecer, las fotos de perspectiva forzada donde parece que sostiene o pellizca la cúpula, y encuadres a través de los arcos de arenisca roja de la puerta Darwaza. Más allá de eso depende de la luz y de cuánto le guste que le dirijan.

Las imágenes editadas se entregan después de la sesión.

Lo que hace el guía

Lo que de otro modo pasaría de largo: la caligrafía labrada en tamaños crecientes para que se lea a una altura uniforme desde el suelo; flores de pietra dura con cuarenta o sesenta piedras incrustadas; alminares inclinados hacia fuera para caer lejos de la tumba en un terremoto; y la única asimetría deliberada, el cenotafio de Shah Jahan, añadido fuera de eje por su hijo.
