El Taj Mahal al amanecer
La puerta abre unos treinta minutos antes del alba y el primer grupo tiene el recinto casi para sí. El mármol se lee gris, luego rosa, luego blanco cuando el sol asoma por detrás de la cúpula. Es además la única hora cómoda entre abril y julio.
El Fuerte de Agra
Arenisca roja por fuera, palacios de mármol dentro. El Diwan-i-Am donde el emperador escuchaba las peticiones públicas, el palacio de Jahangir, y el Musamman Burj, la torre octogonal donde Shah Jahan pasó sus últimos ocho años preso de su hijo, con el Taj visible al otro lado del río.
Itimad-ud-Daulah, el Baby Taj
Nur Jahan lo mandó construir para su padre entre 1622 y 1628, dos décadas antes del Taj Mahal. Es el primer edificio mogol revestido por completo de mármol blanco y el primero que usó marquetería pietra dura a gran escala. Casi todo aquello por lo que se celebra el Taj se resolvió aquí primero, a un tamaño que te deja acercarte lo suficiente para ver cómo se hizo. Es pequeño, sombreado y casi siempre está vacío.
