Le fort, en une heure, avec l'histoire bien racontée.

Le fort d'Agra est traité comme ce qu'on voit après le Taj. Il mérite mieux. Akbar l'a bâti en grès rouge à partir de 1565, Shah Jahan en a reconstruit une grande partie de l'intérieur en marbre blanc, et il a été le siège du pouvoir moghol plus longtemps que le Taj n'existe.

Une heure avec un guide suffit à le couvrir correctement si l'on avance à un rythme raisonnable.

Ce que vous voyez

La porte Amar Singh et son approche, bâtie avec un virage à angle droit et une pente précisément pour empêcher les éléphants de guerre de prendre de l'élan contre la porte intérieure. Le Diwan-i-Am, la salle des audiences publiques, où l'empereur entendait les requêtes de quiconque se présentait. Le palais de Jahangir, le plus grand bâtiment résidentiel du fort, mêlant styles hindou et centre-asiatique par politique délibérée et non par hasard.

Et le Musamman Burj, la tour octogonale de marbre avec sa vue dégagée sur la Yamuna. Shah Jahan y fut enfermé les huit dernières années de sa vie par son fils Aurangzeb, face au tombeau qu'il avait fait bâtir pour Mumtaz Mahal. C'est une courte promenade et une très longue histoire.
