L'écho sous le dôme
Placez-vous dans la chambre centrale et écoutez. Le dôme au-dessus des cénotaphes est à double coque, et l'espace entre le dôme intérieur et l'extérieur donne à la chambre une réverbération qui court près d'une demi-minute : une note tenue puis lâchée reste suspendue là longtemps après que la personne a cessé de chanter.
Les récits moghols décrivent des versets récités dans cette chambre pour exactement cette raison. Les gardiens vous feront taire aujourd'hui, et vous l'entendrez donc par la toux de quelqu'un d'autre plutôt que par votre propre voix, mais c'est la seule chose du Taj que l'on éprouve avec les oreilles.
Taj Mahal
Prise en charge là où vous logez à Agra, avec entrée réservée à l'avance, vous allez donc au couloir plutôt qu'au guichet.
Shah Jahan l'a commencé en 1632, l'année suivant la mort de Mumtaz Mahal en donnant naissance à leur quatorzième enfant. Vingt-deux ans, vingt mille ouvriers, du marbre acheminé sur 400 km depuis Makrana.
Votre guide couvre la calligraphie gravée en tailles croissantes pour se lire d'une hauteur égale depuis le sol, les incrustations de pietra dura avec des dizaines de pierres par fleur, les quatre minarets inclinés vers l'extérieur pour qu'un séisme les fasse tomber loin du tombeau, et la seule asymétrie de toute la composition.
Le fort d'Agra
La ville de grès rouge d'Akbar, 1565, avec les palais de marbre de Shah Jahan à l'intérieur, et le Musamman Burj où Aurangzeb l'a enfermé les huit dernières années de sa vie, le Taj visible le long du fleuve.
Itimad-ud-Daulah, le Baby Taj
De l'autre côté de la Yamuna : le tombeau que Nur Jahan a fait élever pour son père, 1622-1628. Le premier édifice moghol entièrement en marbre et le premier en Inde à utiliser la pietra dura, plus petit que le Taj, plus densément incrusté, et presque toujours vide.

This was a fantastic eat to see the sights of Agra as well as get the detailed information around each site. Nekram brought to life the history. He was an excellent tour guide, thoughtful and never rushed us. He also took many pictures on phone for us which were an added bonus. I would not hesitate in recommending Nekram as a tour guide. We also had a very good driver - we always felt safe despite the traffic being rather chaotic due to building works in the city. Just be prepared for a stop a local company where you learn a lot about the art of marble inlaying (which was great!!) but also slightly pushy sales people (for European standards). 😉

It was an excellent tour. We only had one day and we were picked up at our homestay, very nice. We also went to a marble and a gemstone factory, both were also very nice. The guide also dropped us off at a very good restaurant for a lunch. We had a very nice day!
