The fort, in an hour, with the story straight.
Agra Fort gets treated as the thing you see after the Taj. It deserves better. Akbar built it in red sandstone from 1565, Shah Jahan rebuilt much of the interior in white marble, and it served as the seat of Mughal power for longer than the Taj has existed.
An hour with a guide is enough to cover it properly if you move at a reasonable pace.
What you see
The Amar Singh Gate and the approach, built with a right-angled turn and a slope specifically to stop war elephants building momentum against the inner gate. The Diwan-i-Am, the hall of public audience, where the emperor heard petitions from anyone who came. The Jahangir Palace, the largest residential building in the fort, mixing Hindu and Central Asian design in a way that was deliberate policy rather than accident.
And the Musamman Burj, the octagonal marble tower with the open view across the Yamuna. Shah Jahan was confined here for the last eight years of his life by his son Aurangzeb, looking at the tomb he had built for Mumtaz Mahal. It is a short walk and a very long story.
