If you are staying in Agra, the Taj and Agra Fort fit comfortably into a morning. This tour does exactly that and then puts you in a five-star dining room rather than sending you back to your hotel hungry, which matters more than it sounds like after three hours on marble in the sun.
The morning
Hotel pickup anywhere in Agra city in a private air-conditioned car. The Taj Mahal first, ideally early, when the light is best and the crowds are thinnest. Your guide handles the entry and takes you through the Great Gate approach, the gardens, the platform and the mausoleum interior.
Then Agra Fort, ten minutes away. Built by Akbar and remodelled in marble by Shah Jahan, it holds the Diwan-i-Am, the Jahangir Palace and the Musamman Burj, the octagonal tower where Shah Jahan was held and where the Taj is visible across the river bend.
Lunch follows at a five-star hotel. Then drop back wherever you are staying.
