Your entry ticket is arranged in advance, so you go through the express lane rather than queueing at the counter, which on a busy morning can run past forty minutes before you have even reached security.
What you get
Taj Mahal entry ticket, skip-the-line access, and all applicable government taxes. An official ASI-licensed guide is available as an option at checkout if you decide you want one after all, and it is worth considering: the building rewards someone explaining it, and the difference between walking round the Taj and understanding it is largely the guide.
Worth knowing
Closed every Friday. Every other day, gates open roughly 30 minutes before sunrise and close 30 minutes before sunset.
The express lane is for tickets, not security. Everyone goes through the security check, though it moves quickly first thing.
Foreign-national admission is ₹1,100. The extra ₹200 for entry onto the mausoleum platform is separate and worth paying.
Shoe covers are provided. You cannot take in tripods, food, tobacco or large bags.
Night viewing on full-moon dates is a different ticket entirely, sold only at the ASI office 24 hours ahead, capped at 400 people.
