Three sites, one car, one guide. This is the itinerary that actually covers Mughal Agra rather than the Taj alone, and six hours is the honest length of it.

Taj Mahal

With fast-track entry, which puts you in the shorter queue at the gate. Security still applies — no tripods, no drones, no food, no large bags.

Shah Jahan began it in 1632, the year after Mumtaz Mahal died. Twenty-two years, twenty thousand workers, marble hauled 300 km from Makrana.

Your guide will point out what is easy to miss: calligraphy cut in progressively larger letters so it reads evenly from below, pietra dura flowers carrying dozens of inlaid stones each, minarets tilted outward to fall clear of the tomb in an earthquake, and the single break in the symmetry — Shah Jahan's cenotaph, added off-centre by his son Aurangzeb.

Agra Fort

Akbar's red sandstone fort of 1565 with Shah Jahan's marble palaces inside: the Diwan-i-Am, the Khas Mahal, and the Musamman Burj where Aurangzeb imprisoned his father for eight years with a view down the river to the Taj.

Itimad-ud-Daulah, the Baby Taj

The one visitors skip and guides love. Nur Jahan built it for her father between 1622 and 1628 — the first entirely marble Mughal building and the first use of pietra dura in India. It is smaller than the Taj and more finely worked, and it is nearly always empty.

Without it, the Taj would not look the way it does.

The Taj is closed on Fridays; the other two sites are open, so a Friday version of this tour is possible and your guide will reorder it.
