Agra: Taj Mahal Tour with Expert Photographer and Tour Guide

A guide explains the building. A photographer knows that the bench everyone queues for faces the wrong way at nine in the morning, and that the arch on the west side of the mosque frames the dome better than anything on the main axis.

This tour sends both, which is a small idea that makes a large difference to what you come home with.

What the photographer does

Shoots you, rather than handing you tips. You are not holding the camera, which is the actual reason most people's Taj photographs are of the Taj and not of themselves at the Taj.

The standard set: the Diana bench on the central axis, the reflection in the long water channel, a silhouette against the sunrise, the forced-perspective shots where you appear to hold or pinch the dome, and framing through the red sandstone arches of the Darwaza gateway. Beyond that it depends on the light and how much you enjoy being directed.

Edited images are delivered after the shoot.

What the guide does

The things you would otherwise walk past: calligraphy cut in increasing sizes so it reads uniformly from the ground; pietra dura flowers of forty or sixty inlaid stones; minarets tilted outward to fall away from the tomb in an earthquake; and the single deliberate asymmetry, Shah Jahan's own cenotaph, added off-axis by his son.

Three options

Car, driver and guide. The same with the photographer. Or everything including Taj entry tickets.

Practical

Closed Fridays. Sunrise is both the best light and the smallest crowd, which is why the early slot fills first.

No tripods and no drones inside — security enforces this absolutely, so the photographer works handheld. Entry is ₹1,100 for foreign nationals, ₹200 more for the mausoleum.
