The Taj from the water, which almost nobody does.
The Taj was designed to be approached from the river. In Shah Jahan's time guests arrived by boat on the Yamuna, and the riverfront elevation, the one with the great plinth rising out of the bank, was the intended first view. The road entrance and the Great Gate came later in importance.
This tour puts you back on the water. A small boat takes you along the stretch behind the monument, which gives you the building from the angle it was built for and a set of photographs almost no other visitor comes home with.
How it runs

The Taj is closed on Fridays, though the boat ride still runs.
The river is seasonal. After a weak monsoon the Yamuna can be low enough that the boat stretch is short or unavailable, and in the pre-monsoon months water levels are at their worst. We confirm conditions before your date.
Sunset is the best time for the river view, with the light behind you and on the marble.
Foreign-national entry is ₹1,100 plus ₹200 for the mausoleum platform.
Life jackets are provided. The boats are small and the stretch is calm.
