Thirty thousand people a day in season
That is the number the ticket counter is trying to process at peak, and it is why the queue to buy a ticket can take longer than the walk to the monument. Booking ahead removes that entirely: your tickets arrive on WhatsApp or email, and you go to the entry lane.
It does not remove security, which screens everyone. No tripods, no drones, no food, no large bags, no lighters. Lockers at the gate.
What the ticket includes
The standard Taj ticket covers the complex — the gateway, the garden, the mosque and the jawab, and the platform. The mausoleum chamber itself is a separate ₹200 supplement on top, and it is worth it: the jali screen and the two cenotaphs are inside, and so is the dome's remarkable acoustic.
The real graves are in the crypt directly below, sealed, and nobody visits them.
Shoe covers
You either remove your shoes at the plinth or put on the cloth covers handed out with foreign-national tickets. Both are normal and the marble in May is genuinely too hot for bare feet, so take the covers.
With a guide
On the guided options, the things worth knowing: the calligraphy cut in increasing sizes so it reads the same height from the ground; the pietra dura inlay of up to sixty stones per flower; the four minarets, leaning outward so an earthquake would take them clear of the tomb; and the single asymmetry — Shah Jahan's cenotaph, added off-axis by Aurangzeb.
Three options
Taj with mausoleum, tickets only, no guide. Taj tickets with skip-the-line and a guide. Or Taj and Agra Fort tickets together with fast entry.
Practical
Closed every Friday. Entry for foreign nationals is ₹1,100 plus ₹200 for the mausoleum; Agra Fort is ₹650.

There is no need to book through this service if you are not getting a guide. There is no such thing as “fast track” which I learnt when the tickets came through to me on WhatsApp! The man explained that foreign entry is the fast route. The government website is the exact same ticket except you’ve not had to pay someone to book it for you. I would not recommend this service for booking tickets to anyone going as it seems like a tourist trap.
