The version where you are not rushing.
The problem with the same-day Agra trip is arithmetic: six hours in the car, and whatever is left over goes to the monuments. Staying the night changes the whole shape of it. You see the Taj in evening light, sleep in Agra, and go back at sunrise when the marble turns from grey to pink to white and there is almost nobody there.
Day one
Pickup from your hotel or the airport in Delhi in a private air-conditioned car. Drive to Agra on the Yamuna Expressway, roughly three hours. Afternoon at Agra Fort, the working fortress where Shah Jahan spent his last years under his son's guard, looking across the river at the tomb he had built for his wife. Then the Taj Mahal in the late afternoon. Check in to your hotel for the night.
Day two
Back at the Taj for sunrise, which is a genuinely different experience from the afternoon visit. After breakfast, drive out to Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's abandoned capital, then return to Delhi.

The Taj is closed on Fridays, which affects both of your visits. Pick dates accordingly.
