Mark was beyond excellent! He was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The hike was well worth the drive, we enjoyed seeing the waterfalls, monkeys and vegetation. Mark made sure we were safe always and enjoying ourselves, which we really appreciated. & The lunch spot was even better than i anticipated! My mom (64) and I (25) highly recommend this tour for a fun filled, slightly challenging, very rememberable experience. Thank you so much to Mark !

Had the greatest time. The other group that was meant to be there on the day didn't show up (be on time, they only wait 10 extra minutes from the initial start time if people are late), so I essentially had a private tour. Walks were beautiful, the food was delicious. We were even running a little ahead of schedule at one point so we ducked into the visitor centre and I got to go over the history of Khao Yai. Brilliant way of mixing up a city-centric holiday and stretching your legs for a bit in

Even though it's dry season and there was no water in the waterfalls, I really enjoyed the trip, the walk through the jungle was really fun, and we got to see some animals at the campsite

Guide spoke good english and a Bit of German , the car had a good temperature inside , we had enough stops for food/toilette. We saw some animals Like Monkeys, birds, Fish a lizard and on the Camp station were some tame deer. We could take a Lot of panaroma pictures with the waterfalls and the landscape. Thank you for the nice Tour. Best regards Benjamin from Germany

Our guide, Nok, was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, and made this experience memorable. Khao Yai was beautiful and we were lucky to see some gibbons and some smaller critters. It was the perfect amount of hiking. Transport was comfortable, including aircon and water. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a break from the city.

Really really good tour! A bit tiring especially as I had only arrived into Bangkok from the UK the day before so I was quite jet lagged but otherwise definitely worth doing

Frequently Asked Questions

Khao Yai National Park is approximately 180 km northeast of Bangkok — about a 2.5-3 hour drive each way. The tour includes comfortable van transport with hotel pickup and drop-off. The drive passes through scenic Thai countryside. The total day trip runs approximately 12-14 hours door to door, making it a long but rewarding day. If you prefer a closer day trip, the floating market and railway market tour is only 90 minutes from Bangkok.
Khao Yai is home to wild elephants, gibbons, hornbills, macaques, deer, and over 300 bird species. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed in a national park, but your experienced guide knows the best trails and timing. Wild elephants are commonly spotted near salt licks, especially during the rainy season (June-October). Hornbills are nearly guaranteed. The park is also home to Asian black bears and clouded leopards, though these are rarely seen. Binoculars are recommended.
The tour typically visits Haew Narok waterfall (the park's tallest at 150 meters — and yes, the name means 'Hell's Gorge') and Haew Suwat waterfall, which gained fame from the movie 'The Beach' with Leonardo DiCaprio. Both are spectacular, especially during and after the rainy season (July-November) when water flow is strongest. During the dry season (February-April), some waterfalls may have reduced flow. The guide adjusts the route based on current conditions.
The trails visited on this day trip are easy to moderate — well-maintained paths through tropical forest with some gentle inclines. Total hiking distance is approximately 4-6 km spread across multiple short trails. No technical climbing or scrambling is required. Sturdy shoes with grip are essential as trails can be muddy and slippery, especially during rainy season. The guide sets a comfortable pace suitable for average fitness levels.
Essential items: sturdy walking shoes (hiking boots ideal, not sandals), rain jacket (weather changes quickly in the mountains), mosquito repellent (DEET-based recommended), sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and a light long-sleeve layer. Khao Yai is at elevation so it's cooler than Bangkok by 5-8°C. Bring your camera — the scenery is stunning. A small daypack for your belongings on the trails is useful. Leeches can be present during rainy season — tuck pants into socks.
Yes — a Thai lunch at a local restaurant near the park is included. The restaurant serves authentic Thai dishes — not tourist food — and the meal is generous. Vegetarian options are available with advance notice. Bring extra cash (200-300 THB) for drinks, snacks, and convenience store stops during the drive. The guide usually stops at a roadside fruit stall on the way home for fresh tropical fruits.
Groups are kept small — maximum 10-12 people — to minimize impact on the park environment and maximize wildlife spotting chances. Large groups scare wildlife away, so small groups have better chances of encounters. The guide can give personal attention and adjust the pace to the group's fitness level. For a completely private experience, contact us for custom pricing. The small van is comfortable for the 3-hour drive each way.
Children ages 6 and up enjoy this trip — the wildlife, waterfalls, and jungle setting are exciting for kids. The hiking trails are manageable for active children. However, the 14-hour total day length (including 6 hours of driving) can be exhausting for younger children. Bring snacks and entertainment for the van. For a shorter nature day trip from Bangkok, the ethical elephant sanctuary is a half-day alternative that kids love.
Each season offers different experiences: Dry season (November-February) has the best weather, clearest trails, and most comfortable temperatures. Rainy season (June-October) has the most dramatic waterfalls, lush green forest, and the highest chance of wild elephant sightings — but trails are muddy and leeches are active. Hot season (March-May) is the quietest but hottest. For a first visit, November-January is ideal — cool, dry, and green from the just-ended rains.
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure (longer notice required than city tours due to van and park permit pre-booking). Cancellations within 48 hours receive a 50% refund. The tour operates in light rain — the guide brings ponchos and adjusts the route to safer trails. Only severe weather (tropical storm warning) cancels the trip, in which case a full refund or reschedule is offered. Book early in peak season as this tour fills up fast.
