What a day! The combo of Phi Phi Islands and Khai Islands gives you the best of both worlds. Phi Phi for the dramatic cliffs and Maya Bay, then Khai for the pristine white sand beaches where you can just relax. The speedboat was fast and exciting, got us to Phi Phi in about 45 minutes. Khai Nok island was like a postcard, the sand is powdery white and the water is crystal clear. Lunch was included and really filling, proper Thai green curry and rice.

Really fun tour that covers a lot of ground in one day. The speedboat ride is bumpy if you sit at the front so heads up, sit in the middle or back if you have a sensitive stomach. Phi Phi was stunning as expected and Khai Islands were a nice surprise, very peaceful and great for snorkeling right off the beach. Saw tons of fish just wading in waist deep water. The guide was entertaining and spoke good English. Would have liked a bit more time at Khai but I understand the schedule is tight.

This tour packs in so much value. You get Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, snorkeling spots, AND the Khai Islands all in one trip. The Khai Islands were actually my favourite part, the water is so shallow and clear that fish swim right up to you. Perfect for beginners who are nervous about snorkeling in deeper water. Our guide was really patient with everyone and made sure even the non swimmers felt comfortable. The included lunch was generous portions too.

Solid day trip. We got picked up from our hotel in Patong at 7am which felt early but meant we arrived at Maya Bay before the massive crowds showed up. The Phi Phi stops were beautiful as advertised. Adding Khai Islands to the itinerary was a smart choice, its a completley different vibe from Phi Phi. More chill, more beachy, great for floating around in the shallows. Only thing id say is bring your own snorkel mask if you have one, the provided ones are basic.

Exceeded our expectations! We almost booked a Phi Phi only tour but chose this one because of the Khai Islands addition and it was 100% the right call. The variety of stops keeps things interesting all day. Maya Bay is as stunning as you see in photos. Then the Khai Islands are perfect for just relaxing on the beach after all the snorkeling and swimming. The crew was very professional, they handed out life jackets and snorkel gear without anyone having to ask. Great lunch too.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Phi Phi and Khai Islands speedboat tour includes: hotel pickup and drop-off, a full-day speedboat covering both Phi Phi Islands (Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Bamboo Island) and Khai Island (Khai Nok or Khai Nai), snorkelling equipment, buffet lunch with seafood and Thai dishes, and a professional English-speaking guide. National park entrance fees and life jackets are included. The combination of Phi Phi's dramatic scenery and Khai's calm, shallow snorkelling bay makes this the most comprehensive single-day island tour available from Phuket.
Khai Island (Koh Khai) refers to a group of three small islands — Khai Nok, Khai Nai, and Khai Nui — located approximately 15 km east of Phuket. Unlike Phi Phi, Khai's waters are extremely shallow (0.5–3 metres) and protected from all wind directions, making the snorkelling conditions almost always ideal. The coral gardens immediately off the beach support dense populations of clownfish, sea turtles, and reef fish. The beach is small but beautiful and far less crowded than Phi Phi Don. Adding Khai Island to a Phi Phi tour provides a peaceful contrast to Phi Phi's dramatic karst scenery.
The Phi Phi and Khai Islands tour adds Khai Island as an additional stop, providing extra snorkelling time in calm, shallow water that is especially good for beginners and children. Phi Phi covers the dramatic scenery (Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, cliffs), while Khai provides a relaxed beach and snorkelling experience. The full-day itinerary is slightly more packed than a Phi Phi-only tour, but both destinations are in the same general direction from Phuket, so no significant extra travel time is added. Lunch is served on board or at a beachside venue rather than on Phi Phi Don.
The Phi Phi and Khai Islands tour covers: Pileh Lagoon (Phi Phi Leh — enclosed turquoise lagoon with coral edges), Bamboo Island (Phi Phi's best coral reef with turtles and reef sharks), and Khai Island (extremely shallow, calm coral garden ideal for beginners with consistently good visibility year-round). Three distinct snorkelling environments in one day — from deep-water coral walls at Bamboo Island to the wading-depth reef at Khai. Equipment (mask, fins, life jacket) provided and briefing given before the first water entry.
Yes — this is one of the most beginner-friendly tours from Phuket. The addition of Khai Island is specifically excellent for non-swimmers and first-time snorkellers: the water is only 0.5–2 metres deep in many areas, so you can stand while wearing a mask. Life jackets are provided for all water activities. The Phi Phi Khai tour is particularly recommended for families with young children or those who have never snorkelled before — the calm, shallow environment removes anxiety and maximises the underwater experience.
Yes — a full buffet lunch is included in the Phi Phi Khai Islands speedboat tour. The spread typically includes Thai staples: pad thai, green curry, grilled fish, stir-fried vegetables, jasmine rice, fresh fruit, and soft drinks. Lunch is usually served at a beachside venue. Vegetarian and allergen-sensitive options are available on request — specify when booking. The meal quality is consistently good and genuinely filling. Bring cash (฿200–฿300) if you would like to purchase extra drinks or snacks beyond the included items.
The Phi Phi Khai Islands tour uses a modern fiberglass speedboat with seating for 20–30 passengers, a small covered cabin section for shade and wind protection on the return journey, a sound system, and onboard fresh water. Life jackets are stored on board and must be worn during all water activities. The boats are serviced regularly and meet Thai marine safety standards. Groups are typically 20–35 people — if you prefer a private boat for your group, see our private yacht charter.
Hotel pickup begins at 7:00–8:00 AM from Phuket hotels. The speedboat departs the marina at approximately 8:30 AM, with the first island stop (usually Phi Phi Leh / Maya Bay) reached by 9:45 AM. Multiple stops through the day — Phi Phi and Khai — bring you back to the Phuket marina by approximately 5:00–5:30 PM, with hotel drop-off by 7:00 PM. The early start is important to reach Maya Bay before peak crowds (which peak between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM). Total tour duration: ~10 hours.
Essential: reef-safe mineral sunscreen (chemical sunscreens are banned at national parks — use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide), swimwear, waterproof case for phone, towel. Recommended: rash guard for extended snorkelling, motion sickness tablet (take 30 minutes before departure if prone), cash ฿300–฿500 for extras. Useful: GoPro or waterproof camera — the snorkelling at both Phi Phi and Khai is highly photogenic. Avoid: chemical sunscreen, drones (฿100,000 fine in national park), and large bags. Dry storage space on speedboats is limited.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund. If sea conditions are officially unsafe or the Thai Marine Department issues a navigation advisory, the Phi Phi Khai Islands tour is rescheduled or fully refunded. During the dry season (November–April), cancellations are very rare. Monsoon season (May–October) may bring occasional rough crossings — the operator monitors conditions daily and notifies guests 12+ hours in advance. Book with confidence as all operators maintain transparent weather policies.
The Phi Phi Khai Islands tour adds Khai Island as a bonus stop, giving you two distinct snorkelling environments in one day. The standard Phi Phi Islands tour focuses exclusively on the Phi Phi archipelago — Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, and Bamboo Island. Adding Khai gives you ultra-shallow, calm-water snorkelling (ideal for beginners and children) alongside Phi Phi's dramatic deep-water sites. The Khai stop is en route back to Phuket, so minimal extra travel time. Choose the Khai combo if your group includes nervous swimmers or young children; choose the standard Phi Phi tour if you want maximum time at each Phi Phi site. Both are covered in our Phuket things to do guide.
Yes — Khai Island is only 20 minutes from Phuket by speedboat, making it accessible as a half-day trip. However, standalone Khai-only tours are less commonly offered than the combined Phi Phi Khai tour. For a custom itinerary that focuses on Khai and other nearby islands (Coral Island, Racha), our Phuket private yacht charter lets you design the exact route. Khai's extreme proximity makes it an excellent choice for families or anyone with limited time who still wants a genuine island snorkelling experience. See our full Phuket island hopping guide for all island options and distances.
Khai Island's snorkelling is exceptional because of its extremely shallow, protected reef — coral gardens start in just 0.5 metres of water, meaning you can literally stand up while observing tropical fish, sea cucumbers, and clownfish in anemone. The island is shielded from wind in all directions, so water is almost always calm and visibility is consistently high. Unlike the open-water sites at Phi Phi Islands, Khai never has significant current or surge. This makes the Phi Phi Khai tour the single best option for first-time snorkellers, anxious swimmers, and young children. Experienced snorkellers will still appreciate the dense marine life concentration.
November through April (dry season) offers the best conditions for the Phi Phi Khai Islands tour: calm seas, 20–30 metre snorkelling visibility, and reliable sunshine. December through February is peak season — book 2–3 days ahead. March–April remains excellent with slightly warmer water. During monsoon season (May–October), the Phi Phi crossing can be rougher, but Khai Island's sheltered position means it remains swimmable on most days. For comprehensive seasonal planning including all Phuket tours and weather patterns, consult our Phuket travel guide 2026.
The Phi Phi Khai Islands tour is a full-day excursion that pairs perfectly with other Phuket experiences on separate days. A recommended 3-day plan: Day 1 — Phi Phi and Khai Islands (this tour), Day 2James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay for dramatic karst scenery and cave canoeing, Day 3 — explore Phuket Old Town, visit Big Buddha, and see Wat Chalong. This covers Phuket's marine highlights and cultural landmarks. Travellers continuing to other Thai cities can add Bangkok tours for a contrasting urban experience. Our Phuket 1-day itinerary helps if you have limited time.
