Detailed Itinerary

Hotel Pickup and Transfer to the Marina (07:00)

Your day begins with a convenient hotel pickup from your accommodation in Phuket. A comfortable air-conditioned vehicle will transfer you to Royal Phuket Marina, one of the main departure points for island tours in the region. During the journey, you can relax and prepare for an exciting day exploring the famous Phi Phi Islands.

Upon arrival at the marina around 8:30 AM, you will check in for the tour. Guests are welcomed with refreshing drinks while the guide provides a short briefing about the itinerary, safety instructions, and the highlights of the day. After the briefing, you will board a modern speedboat and begin your journey across the crystal-clear waters of the Andaman Sea.

Visit the Famous Maya Bay (10:00)

The first major stop of the tour is the iconic Maya Bay, one of Thailand’s most photographed destinations. This stunning bay gained worldwide fame after being featured in the movie The Beach. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and emerald-green water, Maya Bay is known for its soft white sand and breathtaking scenery.

Visitors can walk along the beach, take beautiful photos, and enjoy the spectacular views of the bay. Swimming is currently restricted to protect the natural ecosystem, but guests are allowed to step into the shallow water for photos while observing the marine life near the shore.

Explore the Stunning Pileh Lagoon (11:00)

Next, the speedboat continues to Pileh Lagoon, often described as one of the most beautiful lagoons in Thailand. Hidden within tall limestone cliffs, the lagoon features incredibly clear turquoise water that reflects the surrounding rock formations.

This location is perfect for relaxing, swimming, and capturing unforgettable photos. The calm water and dramatic natural landscape create a peaceful atmosphere that makes Pileh Lagoon one of the highlights of the Phi Phi Islands.

Pass by Viking Cave and Visit Monkey Beach (11:50 – 12:00)

The tour then passes by the famous Viking Cave, a historical site known for its swiftlet bird nests. These nests are traditionally harvested and used in the well-known delicacy bird’s nest soup.

Shortly after, the boat stops at Monkey Beach, where visitors may see wild long-tailed monkeys living along the tropical shoreline and limestone cliffs. It’s a great opportunity to observe these animals in their natural habitat and take memorable photos.

Snorkeling at Phi Phi Don Island (12:15)

One of the most exciting parts of the tour is snorkeling near Phi Phi Don Island. This area is famous for its vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life. Guests are provided with snorkeling equipment and can explore the underwater world filled with colorful fish and coral formations.

The clear water and abundant sea life make this location perfect for both beginners and experienced snorkelers.

Lunch on Phi Phi Don Island (13:00)

After snorkeling, the tour stops at Phi Phi Don Island for lunch. Guests can enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant while admiring beautiful views of the surrounding islands and turquoise waters. This break allows travelers to relax, recharge, and soak in the tropical atmosphere.

Relax at Bamboo Island or Khai Nok Island (14:30)

In the afternoon, the journey continues to Bamboo Island or Khai Nok Island, depending on weather and sea conditions. These islands are known for their powdery white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.

Visitors can relax on the beach, swim in the warm Andaman Sea, or snorkel near the shore to observe more marine life. The peaceful setting makes this stop a perfect way to unwind before returning to Phuket.

Return to Phuket (15:30 – 16:30)

Around 3:30 PM, the speedboat departs from the island and heads back toward Phuket. Enjoy scenic views of the Andaman Sea during the return journey. Upon arrival at the marina around 4:30 PM, transportation will be arranged to transfer guests back to their hotels, marking the end of a memorable day exploring the stunning Phi Phi Islands.

This premium catamaran tour was absolutley worth it. The boat was spacious and comfortable, way better than being crammed on a speedboat with 40 people. Maya Bay was breathtaking even though theres a strict visitor limit now (which is actually a good thing for the environment). The snorkeling at Pileh Lagoon was incredible, the water is so clear you can see fish from the deck. Our guide knew exactly where to take us for the best coral and marine life.

Mate this was hands down the best day of our Thailand trip. The catamaran is way more stable than a speedboat which my partner appreciated since she gets seasick. Maya Bay looks exactly like the movie, just gorgeous. Snorkeling at three different spots and saw so many tropical fish, even a sea turtle at one point!! The crew was super friendly and the Thai lunch on board was delicious. Started early which meant we beat the big tour groups to Maya Bay.

I was worried Maya Bay would be disappointing after all the hype but it genuinely took my breath away. The turquoise water against the white sand and towering cliffs, it looks like a painting. The catamaran was very premium feeling with cushions, good music, and attentive crew. Snorkeling at Bamboo Island was also amazing, the reef there is recovering beautifully. Only downside is you cant spend as long as youd like at Maya Bay due to the environmental time limits, but I understand why they do it.

Great tour overall. The catamaran was comfortable and the itinerary was well planned. Phi Phi Don viewpoint hike was tough in the heat but the view from the top is absolutely iconic, you see two bays separated by a thin strip of land. Snorkeling was good, saw lots of colorful fish and some clownfish (nemo!). Food was tasty. Taking off one star only because the pickup from our hotel in Kata was 40 minutes earlier than advertised. But once on the boat everything was perfect.

We chose the premium catamaran over the regular speedboat tours and so glad we did. Much more comfortable ride, better food, and smaller group size. The guide was very knowledgable about the marine ecology and explained why Maya Bay was closed for rehabilitation and how the coral is recovering. Pileh Lagoon was my favourite spot, the water glows bright emerald green and its perfect for swimming. Brought my underwater camera and got some amazing shots of the reef.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Phi Phi Islands speedboat tour includes: hotel pickup and drop-off from major Phuket areas, a full-day speedboat to the Phi Phi archipelago, a visit to Maya Bay (the beach from the film *The Beach*), Pileh Lagoon, Bamboo Island snorkelling stop, a swimming stop at Monkey Beach, buffet lunch on Phi Phi Don, and professional English-speaking guide. Snorkelling equipment (mask, fins, life jacket) and national park entrance fees are included. Total duration is approximately 10 hours door to door.
Yes — Maya Bay fully reopened in 2022 after a 4-year ecological closure and is accessible in 2026. Thai National Park authorities now enforce strict access rules to protect the recovering coral ecosystem: no swimming inside the bay, a maximum visitor limit (~300 people at any time), no boat anchoring (mooring buoys only), and access only between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The coral has visibly recovered and blacktip reef sharks have returned. The Phi Phi Islands speedboat tour handles all park regulations automatically — you simply enjoy the bay.
By speedboat, the journey from the departure marina in Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Slower longtail boats take 2.5–3 hours. The crossing is on the open Andaman Sea — conditions are calmer November–April (dry season) and can be rougher May–October (monsoon). The Phi Phi speedboat tour uses modern, life-jacket-equipped speedboats. If you are prone to motion sickness, take antihistamine-based medication 30 minutes before departure.
The Phi Phi Islands snorkelling tour covers three main snorkelling areas: Pileh Lagoon (shallow, crystal-clear turquoise water inside a natural limestone enclosed lagoon — one of the most photogenic spots in the Andaman Sea), Bamboo Island (surrounding coral gardens with excellent marine biodiversity, including turtles and blacktip reef sharks), and Monkey Beach (a short swim with rocky reef section). Snorkelling equipment is provided. The tour guide identifies marine species at each site. Water visibility typically reaches 15–25 metres November–April.
The waters around Phi Phi Islands support extraordinary marine biodiversity. On the Phi Phi Islands snorkelling tour you can expect: clownfish (Nemo) in anemone at Bamboo Island, schools of parrotfish, surgeonfish, and angelfish, moray eels in coral crevices, hawksbill turtles (regular sightings), and blacktip reef sharks in shallow water at Bamboo Island — non-aggressive and frequently seen in 1–2 metres of water. Maya Bay's recovering coral is already showing young colonies re-establishing. GoPro or underwater camera highly recommended.
Yes — a buffet lunch is included at a beachfront restaurant on Phi Phi Don island. The lunch stop is typically at 12:30–1:30 PM and includes rice, grilled fish, Thai curries, fresh fruit, and soft drinks. Vegetarian and dietary alternatives are available — inform the operator when booking. The lunch location is on the island's main beach, allowing time to walk the waterfront, buy drinks, or rent a kayak for free exploration during the lunch break.
Yes — non-swimmers can participate in the Phi Phi Islands tour. Life jackets are provided and mandatory in the water. Non-swimmers can observe coral and tropical fish while wearing a life jacket and floating on the surface at the snorkelling stops. The boat tour, Maya Bay visit, and Phi Phi Don lunch require no swimming. However, since this is primarily a snorkelling-focused tour, swimmers and snorkellers will gain significantly more from the experience. Non-swimmers who prefer a beach day over water activities should also consider the 4-Island Tour which has more beach time.
The Phi Phi Islands speedboat tour from Phuket follows a full-day schedule: hotel pickup 7:00–8:00 AM, speedboat departure at the marina ~8:30 AM, arrival at Phi Phi Leh (Maya Bay) ~9:45 AM, multiple island stops through the day, return departure from Phi Phi Don ~3:30–4:00 PM, back at Phuket marina ~5:00–5:30 PM, hotel drop-off by 6:30 PM. Early departure is critical — Maya Bay is most beautiful in morning light and least crowded before 11:00 AM.
Essential: reef-safe mineral sunscreen (chemical sunscreens are banned in national parks — bring zinc oxide or titanium dioxide based), swimwear, waterproof phone case or GoPro for underwater photos, and a towel. Recommended: rash guard or UV shirt for extended snorkelling, motion sickness medication (take 30 minutes before departure if prone), cash ฿300–฿500 for drinks and extras on Phi Phi Don. Leave behind: drones (prohibited in national park — ฿100,000 fine), chemical sunscreen, and large valuables.
Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before scheduled departure for a full refund. In the event of officially unsafe sea conditions or Thai Marine Department advisories, the Phi Phi Islands tour is rescheduled to the next available date at no additional cost, or a complete refund is issued. During monsoon season (May–October), rough conditions occasionally cause cancellations — the tour operator will communicate at least 12 hours in advance. December–April has the most reliable weather with very rare cancellations.
These are Phuket's two essential day trips and they are completely different experiences. The Phi Phi Islands tour is about iconic tropical beauty — Maya Bay's white sand, turquoise lagoons, world-class snorkelling, and beach stops. The James Bond Island tour is about dramatic karst scenery, sea cave canoeing through hidden lagoons, and the cultural floating village of Koh Panyee. Phi Phi is more active and water-focused; James Bond Island is more scenic and cultural. If you have two days, do both. If only one, choose Phi Phi for snorkelling and beaches, or James Bond for geological drama and unique canoeing. Our Phuket things to do guide compares all top activities.
Yes — the private Phi Phi Islands yacht cruise offers the same destinations (Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Bamboo Island) but with your own boat, flexible timing, and no shared passengers. Private charters are ideal for couples, families, or groups of 4+ who want to control the pace, spend longer at favourite stops, and access quieter bays. For even more flexibility including multiple island destinations, our Phuket private yacht catamaran charter offers 7 different vessels. The group speedboat tour remains the best value for solo travellers or couples on a budget.
The Phi Phi tour is a full-day commitment (10 hours), so combine it with other Phuket activities on separate days. A strong multi-day Phuket itinerary: Day 1 — Phi Phi Islands speedboat tour, Day 2 — James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay, Day 3 — Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, and Phuket Old Town exploration. Our Phuket 1-day itinerary helps maximise limited time. For travellers continuing to other parts of Thailand, pair your Phuket island days with Bangkok's cultural tours for a complete Thailand experience.
Yes — the Phi Phi Islands are part of Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, established in 1983. This protected status means: entrance fees are charged (included in the Phi Phi tour price), chemical sunscreens are banned (reef-safe mineral sunscreen only), drones are prohibited (฿100,000 fine), and Maya Bay has visitor caps (approximately 300 people at a time). The national park designation has been instrumental in the bay's ecological recovery since the 2018 closure — coral coverage has increased dramatically and blacktip reef sharks have returned. These regulations ensure the islands remain stunning for future visitors. Learn more about the island ecosystem in our Phi Phi Islands guide.
The Phi Phi Islands absolutely live up to the hype — provided you set expectations correctly. Maya Bay is genuinely one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and Pileh Lagoon's turquoise water inside a natural limestone amphitheatre is jaw-dropping. The snorkelling at Bamboo Island rivals the best in Southeast Asia. What the hype sometimes misses: Phi Phi is popular, so Maya Bay has visitor caps and specific access windows. The Phi Phi speedboat tour departs early specifically to beat the midday rush. For a quieter alternative that still includes Phi Phi, the Phi Phi Khai Islands combo tour adds the less-visited Khai Island. Our comprehensive Phuket travel guide 2026 covers all island options with honest advice.
