Delhi's most persistent scam is the fake tourism office — someone tells you the real government tourism office is 'closed' or 'moved' and walks you to a private travel agency instead, which then oversells packages and tours at inflated prices. The actual Delhi Tourism office rarely needs walk-in visits at all once you've booked directly with a verified operator.

Around Connaught Place and near major sights, touts approach with claims of a 'government emporium' or 'fixed price government shop' — these are private shops paying the tout a commission, nothing government about them. Genuine government emporiums exist (Central Cottage Industries Emporium, for one) but you find them yourself, not through someone who approached you on the street.

In the lanes around Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid, cycle-rickshaw drivers sometimes claim a monument is 'closed today' to redirect you to a shop instead — it's almost always open. A guided rickshaw tour with a verified operator removes this entirely, since the route and stops are agreed in advance.

Unmetered taxis and auto-rickshaws outside the airport or train stations frequently quote tourists 3-5x the real fare. Pre-booking an airport transfer at a fixed rate, or insisting on the prepaid taxi counter, avoids the negotiation entirely.
