Detailed Itinerary

Delhi day trip by car

Morning Pickup and Comfortable Travel

Your day begins with a timely pickup from your hotel in Delhi or the National Capital Region (NCR) by an air-conditioned car driven by an English-speaking chauffeur. This ensures a comfortable and hassle-free start to your exploration of Delhi’s rich cultural tapestry. You’ll enjoy a smooth drive as you prepare to delve into the city's historic and modern wonders. Remember to dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes, as you will be covering a lot of ground on foot during this immersive experience.

Visit to India Gate and Historical Monuments

Your first major stop is the iconic India Gate, a majestic war memorial built in honor of Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I. Set against the backdrop of lush lawns and bustling city life, the site offers a poignant glimpse into India’s colonial past and patriotic spirit. After soaking in the atmosphere here, your tour continues to some of Delhi’s most treasured UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

You’ll visit the stunning Humayun’s Tomb, an exquisite example of Mughal architecture and a precursor to the famous Taj Mahal. The tomb’s sprawling gardens and intricate red sandstone and white marble details evoke the grandeur of 16th-century India. Next, the Qutub Minar beckons with its soaring minaret, built in the 12th century and standing as a testament to early Indo-Islamic architecture. As you explore these monuments, your guide will share fascinating stories and historical insights, making the past come alive.

Exploring Old Delhi: Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and Jama Masjid

After the morning’s architectural marvels, your journey takes you deeper into Old Delhi’s vibrant heart. The Red Fort, a massive red sandstone fortress, offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Mughal emperors and the city’s tumultuous history under colonial rule. Here, you’ll stroll through majestic gates, palatial halls, and serene courtyards that speak of imperial splendor.

Next, you’ll wander through Chandni Chowk, one of India’s oldest and busiest markets. This bustling bazaar is a sensory overload of sights, sounds, and smells—street vendors selling spices, sweets, textiles, and jewelry. Your guide will navigate the narrow lanes, pointing out hidden gems and local delicacies to try.

Nearby stands Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India. You’ll appreciate its impressive architecture and spiritual ambiance, where you can observe local worshippers and the timeless rituals of Islamic faith. Just a short walk away is the Sheesh Ganj Gurudwara, a significant Sikh temple known for its welcoming community and peaceful atmosphere.

Midday Lunch Break and Optional Lotus Temple Visit

Midway through your tour, you will pause for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. This break allows you to savor authentic North Indian cuisine, featuring rich flavors and aromatic spices that define Delhi’s culinary heritage. It’s a perfect time to relax and recharge before continuing your adventure.

If time permits, you can opt to visit the Lotus Temple, a modern architectural marvel shaped like a blooming lotus flower. This Bahá'í House of Worship is open to people of all faiths and offers a serene environment for reflection and meditation. The temple’s tranquil gardens and minimalist design provide a sharp contrast to the bustling city scenes you’ve experienced earlier.

Comfortable Return and Insider Tips

After a full day of sightseeing, you will be comfortably driven back to your hotel in Delhi or NCR by the same air-conditioned car. This ensures a relaxed end to your explorations, giving you time to reflect on the incredible history, culture, and vibrant life you’ve witnessed.

Exploring Old and New Delhi by luxury car with an official tour guide was a premium experience. The car was a spacious SUV with leather seats and excellent AC which was essential in the Delhi heat. Our official guide was certified by the Ministry of Tourism and incredibly knowledgable. We covered Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, India Gate, Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. The luxury car made the transitions between sites so comfortable. Definately the most refined way to see Delhi.

Having an official tour guide and luxury car for our Delhi exploration was absolutley worth the premium price. The official guide badge gave us priority access at several monuments. In Old Delhi we visited the stunning Red Fort and walked through the bustling spice market in Chandni Chowk. In New Delhi the wide boulevards and colonial architecture were fascinating. The luxury car was like our private sanctuary between the sensory overload of Delhi's streets. The driver was professional and the car was spotlessly clean.

Nice tour of Delhi with an official guide and luxury car. We visited all the main attractions in both the old and new city. The guide had deep knowledge of Delhi's history from ancient times through the Mughal era to the British period. The luxury car was comfortable though the roads in Old Delhi are so narrow we had to walk some sections regardless. The AC in the car was a welcome relief between stops. Overall a good experience, the official guide certification gave us confidence in the quality of information.

The luxury car and official tour guide combination elevated our Delhi sightseeing experience significantly. The guide spoke perfect French which was a wonderful surprise. He explained the contrast between Old Delhi's Mughal heritage and New Delhi's British colonial grandeur with passion and expertise. We visited Jama Masjid, Red Fort, India Gate, Lotus Temple and Humayun's Tomb. The luxury car meant we were always comfortable and arrived at each site refreshed. The guide also recommended an excellent restaurant for lunch.

Booked this premium tour for my wife's birthday and it was special. The luxury car was immaculate and the driver was courteous throughout. The official tour guide was one of the most impressive guides we have ever had anywhere in the world. At every site, from the Red Fort to Qutub Minar, he had stories and facts that brought the history alive. The Chandni Chowk walking section was a highlight, exploring the 17th century bazaar on foot with an expert. Excellent value for a luxury experience in Delhi.

Frequently Asked Questions

The luxury car Delhi city tour covers both historic Old Delhi and modern New Delhi in an air-conditioned premium vehicle with a private guide: Old Delhi — Jama Masjid (India's largest mosque, built 1656), Red Fort (UNESCO Mughal fortress, built 1648), Chandni Chowk bazaar (rickshaw ride through the historic market lanes), and Khari Baoli (Asia's largest spice market). New Delhi — India Gate and Rajpath (the ceremonial boulevard of the British Raj), Humayun's Tomb (UNESCO Heritage, 1570, architectural predecessor to the Taj Mahal), Qutub Minar (UNESCO Heritage, 12th-century Islamic minaret), and the Lodi Garden (Mughal and pre-Mughal tombs in a park setting). Optional: Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, and the colonial Connaught Place area.
The luxury car Delhi tour uses a premium air-conditioned vehicle — options include the Toyota Innova Crysta (premium SUV, ideal for families and small groups up to 6), Toyota Fortuner (larger luxury SUV), or Mercedes E-Class / BMW 5 Series for couples and individuals seeking maximum comfort. All vehicles are chauffeur-driven by professionally dressed, experienced Delhi city drivers. The vehicle is your private transport for the full day — it waits at each monument while you are inside with the guide, acting as a mobile base providing cool air-conditioned respite between sites. USB charging, mineral water, and Wi-Fi are available in all vehicles.
Yes — a senior Ministry of Tourism-licensed guide is included throughout the day. For a luxury car tour, the guide is matched to the premium vehicle — a senior professional with deep expertise in Delhi's history and architecture, strong communication skills, and experience with discerning international travellers. The guide provides comprehensive commentary at each site: Old Delhi's Mughal history, the architectural significance of Humayun's Tomb as the Taj Mahal's prototype, the colonial history of New Delhi designed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker, and the archaeological layers of Delhi's 3,000-year history. This guide-vehicle combination is the most comfortable and educational way to experience Delhi.
Standard Delhi tours use a Toyota Innova or similar mid-level vehicle with a competent guide. The luxury car tour upgrades every element: premium vehicle with leather interior, chauffeur-level driver, senior specialist guide rather than standard guide, personalized attention to your specific interests, and often access to premium restaurants for lunch. The pace is also more relaxed — the luxury format assumes you want depth at each site, not a rapid drive-by of landmarks. For business travellers, high-net-worth visitors, or travellers for whom Delhi is a once-in-a-lifetime destination, the luxury car tour provides an experience commensurate with the city's extraordinary historical significance.
Yes — a private Mughal-style dinner at a heritage restaurant can be added as an evening extension to the luxury car Delhi city tour. Delhi has several excellent restaurants specializing in Mughal royal cuisine: dishes derived from the recipe books of the imperial kitchens (nihari, mughlai biryani, korma, shahi tukda). Karim's in Old Delhi (operating since 1913, reportedly descended from Mughal royal khansamas/chefs) is the most historically authentic. For a premium experience, reservations at Bukhara (ITC Maurya hotel) — consistently ranked among Asia's best restaurants — can be arranged. The driver and vehicle return you to your hotel after dinner.
Yes — a cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk's historic market lanes is included and is one of the most authentic elements of the Old Delhi experience. The luxury car is parked safely while you transfer to a cycle-rickshaw for approximately 30–45 minutes of slow, immersive navigation through the 17th-century bazaar. The guide accompanies you on the rickshaw (or walks alongside), pointing out the specialized trade lanes (silver market, wedding sari shops, spice vendors, sweet makers) and explaining the original Mughal bazaar layout. This deliberate slowing-down in a rickshaw after hours in an air-conditioned car is the highlight of Old Delhi for most visitors.
Pickup from your Delhi hotel is at 8:30–9:00 AM — starting mid-morning allows you to avoid the worst rush hour traffic and arrive at Old Delhi as the Jama Masjid opens. For visitors who specifically want to experience the early morning wholesale spice trade at Khari Baoli (the spice market is most atmospheric before 9 AM), an earlier 7:30 AM pickup can be arranged. The tour runs until approximately 7:00–8:00 PM (including an optional sunset at India Gate). Lunch at a premium Delhi restaurant is included at approximately 1:00 PM. The guide designs the sequence to minimize traffic and maximize morning light at key sites.
The luxury Delhi city tour covers 7–9 sites over the full day, with 30–90 minutes at each depending on significance: Jama Masjid (45 min), Red Fort exterior and forecourt (30 min), Chandni Chowk rickshaw (45 min), Khari Baoli spice market walk (30 min), Humayun's Tomb (60–90 min), Qutub Minar (60 min), India Gate (30 min). Optional additions: Lodi Garden (45 min), Lotus Temple (30 min), Akshardham Temple (90 min). The pace is deliberately unhurried — the luxury format prioritises depth over quantity. If you find yourself particularly captivated by one site, the guide extends time there and adjusts the remaining itinerary.
The luxury car Delhi tour is the most appropriate format for senior travellers. The premium vehicle provides maximum comfort between sites, door-to-door hotel service eliminates any walking to transport, and the guide manages all logistics including entry queuing, security, and ticket purchase. Inside monuments, electric golf buggies are available for mobility-impaired visitors at Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, and Red Fort areas. The guide adapts the pace to suit the group — there is no fixed schedule to keep, no rush, and no compromise on comfort. For senior travellers visiting Delhi for the first time, this tour provides the maximum historical immersion with the minimum physical stress.
The luxury car Delhi city tour offers a selection of premium vehicles matched to your group size and preference: For couples and solo travellers (1–2 persons): Mercedes E-Class (flagship sedan with leather interior, rear climate control, and superior ride quality on Delhi's varied road surfaces), BMW 5 Series (sport-luxury sedan with exceptional road handling), or Audi A6 (refined comfort with advanced sound insulation). For small groups (3–4 persons): Toyota Innova Crysta Luxury (India's most popular premium SUV, spacious third-row seating, captain seats in the top trim), Toyota Fortuner (full-size SUV with commanding road position), or Mercedes GLE (luxury SUV). For larger groups (5–7 persons): Toyota Alphard (ultra-luxury van with executive reclining seats and privacy glass), Mercedes V-Class (premium people-mover with captain chairs), or Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (full-size luxury SUV). All vehicles are late-model (2022 or newer), professionally maintained, and equipped with leather seating, dual-zone climate control, USB-C charging ports, Wi-Fi hotspot, cold mineral water, and hand sanitiser. The chauffeur wears a professional uniform and is an experienced Delhi city driver. Specify your vehicle preference when booking. For more on Delhi's highlights, see our Old and New Delhi guided tour page.
Yes, Delhi is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular tourist areas like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, and around major monuments. Booking a licensed local guide through AsiaByLocals adds an extra layer of safety and local knowledge.
The Delhi Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to travel between attractions. For tour experiences, our guides arrange private air-conditioned vehicles so you can cover Old Delhi and New Delhi comfortably in one day.
For popular sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and Red Fort, advance tickets are recommended to skip long queues. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, entry tickets and skip-the-line access are typically included.
