Guide Rut and our driver was excellent, courteous and organized. We were picked up at our hotel, made a few brief stops to pick up other tour goers, in a comfy, air conditioned car, and then taken to the train station where we took a local train to our first stop, the Railway Market. What an experience pulling directly into the market! Rut’s recommendations for market shopping and lunch recommendation at the floating market were also spot on! Thank you for a great day!

Amazing day in Bangkok with Tim as our guide! Between the floating market and the incredible market with the train passing right through the middle, it was such a unique and memorable experience.

Rut Was our Guide she was amazing, recommend the best places to eat and what to try. Kept us on track. The tour was also worth it to do 2 markets. Do the 6am tour as you still have time the rest of the day. Felt safe as a solo traveller also.

Frequently Asked Questions

This tour combines two of Thailand's most iconic markets in a single day trip — the Damnoen Saduak floating market (where vendors sell from boats on canals) and the Maeklong railway market (where a train passes through the stalls). The combination is the most efficient way to experience both since they're only 30 minutes apart by road. We also visit a coconut sugar farm along the way. For a similar itinerary from a different operator, see our Floating Market and Train Market Experience.
You'll return to your Bangkok hotel by approximately 2:00-3:00 PM, giving you the entire afternoon and evening free. This makes it perfect to pair with an evening activity like the Muay Thai boxing at Rajadamnern Stadium or a tuk-tuk Chinatown night food tour. The early morning departure (6:00-6:30 AM) ensures you experience the markets at their most vibrant.
Yes — a private longtail boat ride through the floating market canals is included in the tour price. The boat ride lasts 30-45 minutes and takes you through narrow waterways where vendors paddle wooden boats laden with fruits, noodles, and souvenirs. The boat has a canopy for shade. Purchasing food or souvenirs from boat vendors is at your own expense — bring 200-500 THB in small notes.
En route between the two markets, you'll stop at a traditional coconut sugar farm where you watch the entire process — from tapping the coconut palm flowers for sap, to boiling the sap into rich caramel-colored sugar. You'll get to taste fresh coconut sugar and buy some to take home. This authentic rural experience adds cultural depth beyond just the two markets and is unique to this tour itinerary.
Damnoen Saduak is busiest between 9:00-11:00 AM when large tour groups arrive. Our early departure means you arrive around 8:00 AM when it's quieter and more photogenic. Maeklong is less crowded overall but the area near the tracks gets packed 15 minutes before each train passes. Your guide knows the best positions for photos and navigates around the crowds expertly. Weekdays are generally less busy than weekends.
Wear lightweight, breathable clothing and comfortable shoes that can handle wet surfaces. The floating market has splashing water and the boat can be slightly damp. A hat and sunscreen are essential — most of the markets are open-air. Avoid flip-flops as walking on railway tracks requires stable footwear. Bring a small waterproof bag or pouch for your phone during the boat ride.
Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair accessible. The floating market requires boarding a longtail boat from a dock, and the Maeklong railway market involves walking along uneven train tracks. The markets have narrow passages and no designated accessible paths. Travelers with limited mobility should consider alternatives like the Bangkok canal longtail boat cruise which has easier boarding and a more relaxed pace.
Yes — this tour is available as both a small group (max 12 people) and a private option. The private version allows flexible timing, extra stops, and personalized attention. Private tours cost approximately 30-40% more but provide a significantly more intimate experience. Contact us via WhatsApp to arrange a private departure. The private version uses the same route and guide but at your own pace.
A light breakfast snack is typically provided during the drive, but the main appeal is buying fresh food at the markets yourself. The floating market has boat-cooked pad thai, grilled seafood, coconut ice cream, and tropical fruits at extremely low prices (30-80 THB per dish). At Maeklong you'll find dried seafood, Thai desserts, and fresh produce. Your guide recommends the best stalls — bring 300-500 THB for food and snacks.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund. Late cancellations are non-refundable as vehicle and boat are pre-booked. The tour operates rain or shine — markets function normally in light rain and the boat has a canopy. In case of severe weather warnings, we'll offer a free reschedule or full refund. Changes to your booking date are free with 48 hours' notice.
