Pushkar, und eine Jeep in die Dünen dahinter
150 km südwestlich von Jaipur, etwa drei Stunden. Die Stadt ist die Attraktion, und die Jeep-Safari bei der umfassenderen Option ist der Grund, diese Version statt eines einfachen Tagesausflugs zu wählen.
Der See und der Tempel
Hindus glauben, dass der See dort entstand, wo Brahma einen Lotus fallen ließ, und dies ist der wichtigste Brahma-Tempel überhaupt, es gibt vielleicht ein Dutzend auf der Welt, da Brahma fast nie direkt verehrt wird.
Zweiundfünfzig Ghats umringen das Wasser, jeder von einem anderen Herrscher oder einer anderen adligen Familie erbaut, und Pilger baden dort bei Morgen- und Abenddämmerung.
Der Brahma-Tempel stammt in seiner heutigen Form aus dem 14. Jahrhundert auf einem viel älteren Standort, über eine Treppe aus Marmor. Schuhe aus, deutlich vor dem Eingang; Leder bleibt im Auto.
Eine Warnung, die sich lohnt: Männer an den Ghats bieten einen „Pushkar-Pass"-Segen an und verlangen dann eine große Spende, manchmal beharrlich. Ein bestimmtes, höfliches Nein reicht.
Savitri-Tempel
Auf dem Hügel darüber, über eine lange Treppe oder eine Seilbahn, mit dem ganzen See und der Stadt darunter. Am besten in der letzten Stunde des Lichts.
Die Jeep-Safari
In die Dünen und das Halbwüstengebiet um die Stadt, meist am späten Nachmittag. Ein kleines, echtes Sandgebiet, nicht die eigentliche Thar, die weiter westlich liegt, mit Rajput- und Bishnoi-Dörfern, und Hirschziegenantilopen und Gazellen um die Bishnoi-Siedlungen.
Die Bishnoi sind erwähnenswert: eine im 15. Jahrhundert gegründete Sekte mit neunundzwanzig Prinzipien, mehrere davon verbieten das Fällen grüner Bäume oder das Verletzen von Tieren. 1730 wurden dreihundertdreiundsechzig von ihnen getötet, als sie einen Khejri-Baumhain vor den Äxten eines Maharadschas verteidigten, weshalb Wildtiere noch immer frei um ihre Dörfer weiden.

Ravi was een heel fijne gids die ons de hele dag van tips heeft voorzien. Niets was hem te veel. We hadden de all inclusive tour naar Pushkar geboekt. Nadat we Pushkar hadden bezocht hebben we nog bijna 1,5 uur op een kameel gereden. Geweldig! Ravi was er al om 07.00 uur en bracht ons om 22.00 uur terug naar het hotel. Het was een vriendelijke gids die ons veel heeft verteld. We voelden ons veilig bij hem in de auto. Mochten we ooit weer in Jaipur zijn dan willen we Ravi graag weer als gids.
Ayan picked us up from our hotel, drove us to Pushka, looked after us and our belongings in his car whilst we were taken around by a guide of who he sorted for us! Ayan also sorted our lunch at a lovely spot with amazing food before heading to ride some camels to watch the sunset. And after all of that, he drive us all the way right to the front of our hotel in Jaipur. He was brilliant, friendly and we highly recommend!
We had an amazing experience on our Pushkar tour! The driver Navratan was absolutely incredible extremely kind, professional, knowledgeable and attentive. He explained so many interesting things about the culture and places we visited, while also giving us the freedom to enjoy everything at our own pace. We had been dealing with some stomach issues during our trip, and he was incredibly thoughtful about it, always making sure we were careful with what we ate and that we were comfortable throughout the day. His kindness and genuine care went above and beyond what we expected. He truly made the experience special and was a 5-star professional from beginning to end. The tour manager (and owner of the company) was very kind and warned us about the possible scams that might happen to tourists in the place. The car was completely new and very clean.
