Zwei Städte, die sich überhaupt nicht ähneln

Jaipur ist rosa Sandstein in einem Tal. Jaisalmer ist gelber Sandstein, der sich 560 km westlich aus der Thar-Wüste erhebt, und das einzige Fort in Indien, in dem noch Menschen leben. Die Verbindung per Flug oder Zug statt auf der Straße macht drei Tage ausreichend.

Tag 1: Jaipur

Amber Fort zum Start, der Hügelkomplex über dem Maota-See mit dem Sheesh Mahal, wo Spiegelfragmente eine einzige Flamme in eine Lichtdecke verwandeln. Eine Jeep fährt die Rampe hinauf, falls Sie sie nicht gehen möchten.

Panna Meena ka Kund direkt darunter: ein Stufenbrunnen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert mit sich kreuzenden symmetrischen Treppen, die acht Stockwerke hinabführen, fast immer ruhig, da die Reisebusse dort nicht halten.

Dann die Altstadt, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, und abends die Bazare.

Tag 2-3: Jaisalmer

Sonar Quila, das goldene Fort, 1156 erbaut und eines der sehr wenigen noch bewohnten Forts der Welt: etwa dreitausend Menschen leben noch innerhalb seiner Mauern, in Häusern, die ihre Familien seit Generationen besitzen. Der gelbe Sandstein wird bei Sonnenuntergang honigfarben, daher der Name.

Die Jain-Tempel im Inneren, aus dem 12. bis 16. Jahrhundert, sind so dicht geschnitzt, dass der Stein wie Spitze aussieht.

Patwon ki Haveli, fünf Kaufmannshäuser, die in den 1800er Jahren Seite an Seite gebaut wurden, mit Jali-Gittern, die so fein geschnitten sind, dass sie sich im Licht zu bewegen scheinen.

Gadisar-See, ein im 14. Jahrhundert angelegtes Reservoir, am besten bei Sonnenaufgang mit den Zugvögeln.

Die Wüste

Sam-Sanddünen, 40 km entfernt, für eine Kamelfahrt bei Sonnenuntergang und eine Nacht unter dem Himmel. Das Lager ist je nach gebuchter Option entweder einfach oder ein Luxuszelt.
