Zwei Handwerke aus Jaipur, von Ihnen gemacht, dazu die Märkte.

Blaue Keramik ist Jaipur eigen und ungewöhnlich: sie enthält überhaupt keinen Ton. Die Masse besteht aus Quarzpulver, gemahlenem Glas, Walkerde und Gummi und wird nur einmal bei niedriger Temperatur gebrannt. Das Kobaltblau kam über die Moguln aus Persien, und das Handwerk starb im zwanzigsten Jahrhundert fast aus, bevor es bewusst wiederbelebt wurde. Im Workshop formen und bemalen Sie selbst ein Stück.

Stoffdruck ist das andere: ein Muster spiegelbildlich in einen Teakblock geschnitten, in Farbe getaucht, von Hand auf Baumwolle geschlagen und über den Stoff wiederholt, wobei die Ausrichtung nach Augenmaß sitzt. Vier Farben heißt vier Blöcke in Folge. Ihre ersten Schläge werden schief sein, und genau das ist der Punkt.

Um die Werkstätten herum die Märkte: Johari Bazaar für Schmuck, Bapu Bazaar für Textilien und Juttis, und die Gassen der Altstadt. Ihr Guide weiß, welche Läden echte Blockdrucke verkaufen und welche Siebdrucke zu Handdruckpreisen: diese eine Unterscheidung ist die Tour wert.

Wie man Handblockdruck von Siebdruck unterscheidet: Handblockdruck hat kleine Unregelmäßigkeiten dort, wo die Blöcke aneinanderstoßen, und die Farbe sitzt auf beiden Seiten in der Faser. Siebdruck ist vollkommen regelmäßig und liegt auf der Oberfläche.
Indigo oxidiert nach Ihrem Weggang weiter, Ihr Stück wird also in den folgenden Stunden nachdunkeln. Das ist die Farbe bei der Arbeit.
Tragen Sie etwas, bei dem Flecken nichts ausmachen. Farbe geht nicht mehr heraus.
Blaue Keramik wird gebrannt, ein fertiges Stück kann also später abgeholt oder verschickt werden. Fragen Sie in der Werkstatt.
Die Altstadtgassen sind eng und uneben. Bequeme Schuhe.
