Die meisten Leute fahren Jaipur nach Agra in vier Stunden und sehen dazwischen nichts. Diese Tour macht denselben Tag nordwärts über Mathura und Vrindavan und setzt Sie trotzdem am Abend in Agra ab, Sie gewinnen also zwei der wichtigsten Tempelstädte Indiens, ohne einen Reisetag zu verlieren.

Mathura

Hindus halten daran fest, dass Krishna hier geboren wurde, in einer Gefängniszelle, die heute unter der Tempelanlage Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi liegt. Die Sicherheitskontrolle dort ist streng, keine Telefone, keine Taschen, keine Kameras, und das ist nicht verhandelbar: lassen Sie alles im Wagen.

Die Yamuna-Ghats unterhalb der Stadt sind ruhiger und den Weg wert, wenn Ihr Fahrer Zeit hat.

Vrindavan

Elf Kilometer weiter, und eine andere Atmosphäre. Hier soll Krishna aufgewachsen sein, und die Stadt hat etwa fünftausend Tempel.

Banke Bihari ist das Gegenteil: aus den 1860er Jahren, eng, laut, und der Tempel, an dem Vrindavan selbst am meisten hängt. Der Vorhang vor der Gottheit wird traditionsgemäß alle paar Minuten auf- und wieder zugezogen, damit niemand Krishnas Blick zu lange hält.

Praktische Hinweise

Beide Städte sind streng vegetarisch und alkoholfrei. Schuhe kommen an jedem Tempel aus, und der Stein wird ab April heiß: Socken helfen.

Witwen kommen seit Jahrhunderten nach Vrindavan, um dort ihr Leben zu beenden, und Sie werden sie sehen. Es ist ein echter Ort, keine Kulisse.

Das Absetzen
