El museo más antiguo de Rajastán, bien explicado

Dos horas, un edificio y un guía capaz de decirle qué está mirando. El Albert Hall recompensa eso mucho más que el deambular, porque su colección está ordenada por material y por oficio y no según ningún relato que pudiera adivinar.

El edificio

Abierto al público en 1887, diseñado por sir Samuel Swinton Jacob, y el mejor ejemplo de arquitectura indosarracena de la ciudad: chhatris y celosías jali rajput injertados en una planta de museo europeo, en la piedra clara de las colinas de Jaipur.

Se levanta en el jardín Ram Niwas, y de noche está iluminado y rodeado de palomas en una cantidad que hay que ver.

Dentro

La momia egipcia es lo que trae a la mayoría de los visitantes: una mujer llamada Tutu, de una familia sacerdotal de Panópolis, de unos 2.300 años, entregada al museo en 1887. Está en la galería de arte egipcio y extranjero, con una buena exposición sobre cómo se examinó.

Más allá de eso, la fuerza real es la artesanía de Rajastán: cerámica azul de los hornos de Jaipur, armas y armaduras, pintura en miniatura de las escuelas de Jaipur y Kishangarh, marfil, metalistería, y una galería de alfombras cuya pieza central es una alfombra de jardín persa del siglo XVII traída de Lahore.

Hay también un conjunto completo de modelos de barro hechos en la década de 1880 que muestran posturas de yoga, uno de los registros de ese tipo más antiguos que existen.

Unas dos horas de pie, por completo en interiores, lo que lo convierte en una opción realmente buena en medio de un día caluroso o durante el monzón.

La entrada se paga en la puerta: una tarifa pequeña, mayor para extranjeros, con un billete combinado aparte si piensa ver otros monumentos de Jaipur el mismo día. Existe un pase conjunto por el que conviene preguntar a su guía.
