Un santuario donde los elefantes no llevan a nadie.

Jaipur tiene una historia larga e incómoda con los paseos en elefante por la rampa del Fuerte Amer. Elefantastic existe como alternativa: un santuario familiar donde viven elefantes rescatados y retirados, cada uno con su propio mahout, que normalmente lleva años con ese animal.

Aquí nadie los monta.

Qué hace

Conoce a los elefantes y a sus cuidadores, que le contarán de dónde viene cada animal; varios estaban antes en la rampa del fuerte o en el circuito de la mendicidad callejera. Les da de comer, y las cantidades sorprenden: caña de azúcar y plátanos a brazadas.

Camina con ellos. Según el día, ayuda a bañarlos, cosa que ellos disfrutan bastante más de lo que usted se mantendrá seco.

Y hay tiempo simplemente para estar cerca de ellos, que es la parte que casi todos los visitantes dicen recordar. Un elefante en reposo, de cerca y sin tener que actuar, es un animal distinto de uno que sube una rampa con turistas encima.

No se monta. Si algún operador en Jaipur le ofrece un paseo en elefante, ese es otro tipo de negocio.

Los elefantes son grandes e impredecibles. Haga caso al mahout; las indicaciones no son decorativas.
Las mañanas son mejores: más frescas para los animales y para usted, y están más activos.
