Cuidado en lugar de paseos
Esta visita está construida en torno a cómo se cuida a los elefantes, no en torno a sentarse sobre uno. Aquí no se monta.
Lo que haces en su lugar es pasar tres horas con los animales y las personas que trabajan con ellos cada día, lo cual resulta mucho más interesante que una foto desde un howdah.
Hathi Gaon
El pueblo de elefantes se construyó a las afueras de Jaipur en la década de 2000 específicamente para que los animales y sus mahouts tuvieran árboles, agua y espacio en lugar de una calle de ciudad. Alrededor de un centenar de elefantes viven allí con las familias de sus cuidadores.
Lo que aprendes
La rutina diaria, que consiste sobre todo en comer: un elefante adulto consume unos 150 kg de vegetación al día y bebe hasta 200 litros de agua. Alimentar a uno es más lento y más extraño de lo que esperas.
Comportamiento y comunicación, los elefantes usan infrasonidos por debajo de la audición humana, así es como los animales separados se mantienen en contacto a través de kilómetros. La trompa tiene unos cuarenta mil músculos y sin hueso.
Cuidado de pies y piel, que es el trabajo real. Los pies del elefante soportan cuatro toneladas y se dañan fácilmente; las uñas y las almohadillas se revisan y se liman constantemente. La piel tiene dos centímetros y medio de espesor y aun así se quema con el sol, por eso se echan polvo y barro encima.
Los mahouts
La mayoría ha trabajado con el mismo animal durante años, a menudo de una familia que lleva generaciones haciendo esto. Son las personas más interesantes del recinto y responderán a cualquier cosa, cómo leen un estado de ánimo, de dónde vino un animal, cuánto tiempo llevó ganarse la confianza.

Práctico
Tres horas. Puedes mojarte o ensuciarte de barro dependiendo de lo que hagan los animales, lleva ropa de cambio.
Sin flash, y quédate donde te coloquen los cuidadores. Son animales grandes y las reglas existen para ambas partes.

Our guide Kishur was very knowledgeable and pleasant. He accommodated to our needs. He made the day very enjoyable and told us a lot about the culture and history of Jaipur. Great tour with Irfan and Rama Singh today, we explored Jaipur high and low starting with the Amer Fort and ending with the monkey palace. It’s great to be able to customise to what you want to see and Ifran offered many more points of interest that were more local and less touristy. We thoroughly enjoyed- thank you!

The tour was very well organized, Harshit was a great tour guide and gave his best to explain everything and answer our questions. He also accomodated our request to stop for a visit that was not planned at the beginning. We felt very safe in general going around with him and the driver. We would definitely recommend this tour to anybody who wants visit Jaipur and see all the main landmarks.
