Panna Meena ka Kund

Primero, antes de Amber. Un pozo escalonado del siglo 16 con escaleras simétricas entrecruzadas que descienden ocho plantas hasta el agua, construido para que el pueblo pudiera llegar a él en cualquier estación. Jai Singh II era un astrónomo que, de paso, fundaba ciudades. Entre 1728 y 1734 construyó aquí diecinueve instrumentos de mampostería, y funcionan.

El Samrat Yantra es un reloj de sol de 27 metros cuya sombra se mueve 6 cm por minuto, puedes ver pasar el tiempo, y es preciso hasta unos dos segundos. El Jai Prakash Yantra es un par de cuencos hemisféricos hundidos en el suelo, marcados para cartografiar la posición del sol. Los doce instrumentos Rashivalaya están cada uno alineado con un signo del zodiaco y solo pueden usarse cuando ese signo cruza el meridiano.

Jai Singh los construyó porque no confiaba en los instrumentos de latón de la época: más grande significaba graduaciones más finas, y la piedra no se deformaba. Tenía razón, y siguen siendo los más grandes de su tipo en el mundo.
