El City Palace ocupa una séptima parte de la ciudad amurallada y la familia real habita aún una parte, razón por la que los aposentos privados del Chandra Mahal están cerrados y el resto no. Lo que se ve es el Mubarak Mahal con su colección textil y de vestuario, el Diwan-i-Khas que guarda dos urnas de plata de ley, las mayores piezas de plata de una sola pieza del mundo, hechas para que un maharajá pudiera llevar agua del Ganges a Inglaterra en 1901, y el Pritam Niwas Chowk con sus cuatro puertas pintadas para las cuatro estaciones. La puerta del pavo real es la que fotografía todo el mundo, y se lo merece.

El templo Govind Devji está dentro del conjunto del palacio y es el templo más importante de Jaipur. La imagen de Krishna que hay aquí se trajo de Vrindavan en el siglo diecisiete para ponerla a salvo de Aurangzeb. Es un templo en activo, no un monumento, y funciona según el horario de los aartis: siete aperturas diarias en las que se abren las cortinas, se revela la deidad y varios cientos de personas cantan. Si su visita coincide con una, ese es el recuerdo que se lleva a casa, no el palacio.
