Un templo en un desfiladero, y el templo del sol encima
Un tour corto y enfocado a dos sitios en las colinas Aravalli al este de Jaipur para los que casi ningún itinerario de excursión de un día tiene tiempo.
Galta Ji
Un complejo de templos encajado en un desfiladero en las colinas, a diez kilómetros de la ciudad vieja. Manantiales naturales bajan a través de una serie de tanques de piedra, el Galta Kund en la parte superior nunca se ha secado, y los peregrinos se bañan en él desde hace siglos.
Los edificios son de arenisca rosa del siglo 18 con interiores pintados que se desvanecen de una manera que hace que verlos ahora merezca la pena. El complejo está construido en la roca en lugar de sobre ella, por eso todo se siente escondido hasta que estás dentro.
Sobre los monos
Dos manadas viven aquí, macacos rhesus y langures, de ahí el apodo.
Son animales salvajes. No sostengas comida en la mano, no asomes el teléfono sobre un muro, y quítate las gafas de sol de la cabeza. Sigue eso y te ignorarán por completo.
Templo de Surya
En la cresta sobre el complejo, dedicado al sol y mirando hacia el amanecer, al que se llega con una caminata por el sendero del desfiladero.
Desde ahí arriba toda la ciudad se extiende abajo, y en cualquiera de los extremos del día es uno de los mejores miradores de Jaipur, con casi nadie en él.
La caminata es empinada en partes y vale el esfuerzo.
Qué se espera
Zapatos fuera en los templos, hombros y rodillas cubiertos. Sin fotografía dentro de los santuarios. Los cinturones y bolsos de cuero es mejor dejarlos en el coche.
Es un lugar de peregrinación activo más que un monumento, y puedes encontrarte una puja o un ritual de baño en curso. Tu guía te dirá dónde colocarte.

Ve temprano o tarde, el mediodía es caluroso en el desfiladero y los macacos son más atrevidos.

Abhi and Eddie were extremely knowledgeable and gave a great overview of the history of Jaipur. The tour was absolutely amazing and I can’t recommend it enough - by far my highlight of Jaipur! We started with the sun temple - the local people were really welcoming and made me feel at home. The views over the city were stunning and I took some incredible pictures of the monkeys! We then walked on to Galta ji temple where there were even more incredible views! The scenery and buildings were unbelievable. I took some amazing pictures but you have to be there to really experience it! This was an absolutely amazing trip and I can’t recommend this enough to anyone visiting Jaipur! I wish I’d booked Abhi and Eddie for the rest of my time in Jaipur but I’m so glad I found them. Communication was excellent throughout and incredibly reassuring. Abhi and Eddie are naturally extremely friendly people and this father and son team really made me feel at home. Can’t thank you guys enough!
Probably my favorite place in Jaipur, this tour had a little bit of everything, I enjoyed this a lot, my guide Eddie, he is full of energy, full of great attitude and always answering all my doubts and questions, we did some local rituals with priests, we saw some playful monkeys, the temples were incredible, the nature, the atmosphere, the locals bathing in holy water and it doesn’t take but two hours of your day, BEST. TOUR. IN. JAIPUR.
It was a small hike through the mountains to the monkey temple. There were many small temples on the way with history and scenic views. Abhishek explained the history in detail and we had some interesting conversations on history and culture which made the hike even more fun. I would also like to add that Abhishek offered to help very kindly when I had a small issue.
