Un trazado de ruta que sirve de algo

Casi todo el mundo conduce de Jaipur a Agra en cuatro horas y no ve nada por el camino. Este recorrido hace el mismo día subiendo hacia el norte por Mathura y Vrindavan y aun así le deja en Agra por la tarde, así que gana dos de las ciudades templo más importantes de la India sin perder un día de viaje.

Mathura

Los hindúes sostienen que Krishna nació aquí, en una celda, que hoy queda bajo el conjunto del templo Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. La seguridad allí es dura, sin teléfonos, sin bolsos, sin cámaras, y eso no se negocia: deje todo en el coche.

Los ghats del Yamuna por debajo de la ciudad están más tranquilos y merecen el paseo si su conductor tiene tiempo.

Vrindavan

Once kilómetros más allá, y otra atmósfera. Aquí se dice que creció Krishna, y la ciudad tiene algo así como cinco mil templos.

El Prem Mandir es el que visita casi todo el mundo: mármol blanco italiano, terminado en 2012, iluminado en colores cambiantes al caer la noche y rodeado de escenas talladas de la vida de Krishna. Es moderno y no lo disimula.

El Banke Bihari es lo contrario: de la década de 1860, estrecho, ruidoso, y el templo que más le importa a Vrindavan misma. La cortina que cubre la deidad se abre y se cierra cada pocos minutos, por tradición, para que nadie sostenga demasiado tiempo la mirada de Krishna.

Notas prácticas

Las dos ciudades son estrictamente vegetarianas y sin alcohol. Los zapatos salen en cada templo, y la piedra se calienta a partir de abril: los calcetines ayudan.

Las viudas vienen a Vrindavan a terminar sus vidas desde hace siglos, y las verá. Es un lugar real, no un decorado.

La dejada

El día termina en Agra, en su hotel. Existe también una versión con noche incluida que reparte la misma ruta en dos días a un ritmo más tranquilo.
