Ranthambore est à environ quatre heures de Jaipur, ce qui rend un seul safari faisable en une longue journée si vous ne pouvez pas libérer une nuit. Vous perdez le second safari qu'offre une nuitée, et les chances d'observation qui vont avec, mais vous gardez votre hôtel à Jaipur et votre programme.

Le parc

Ranthambore est bâti autour d'un fort du Xe siècle, avec une forêt sèche de feuillus qui a poussé alentour. De vieilles portes, des chhatris et un puits à degrés sont dispersés dans la réserve, ce qui lui donne une allure que rien d'autre en Inde ne possède.

Il abrite une véritable population de tigres, et les animaux y sont habitués aux véhicules, ce qui explique les taux d'observation. Vous y trouvez aussi le léopard, l'ours lippu, le sambar, le crocodile des marais et une très longue liste d'oiseaux.

Options

Deux au moment de la réservation : un safari le matin ou le soir. Les matinées sont plus froides et généralement meilleures pour les observations ; les soirées sont plus douces et la lumière convient mieux à la photographie.

Le parc ferme du 1er juillet au 30 septembre pour la mousson. Les zones 6 à 10 restent parfois ouvertes ; les zones centrales, non.
Les créneaux de safari sont attribués par l'État et partent vite en saison et autour des fêtes indiennes. Réservez le plus tôt possible : c'est la vraie contrainte.
La zone est assignée par le département des forêts, elle ne se choisit pas. Certaines zones ont de meilleurs antécédents que d'autres et personne ne peut honnêtement en demander une.
