Ce qu'est Chokhi Dhani, honnêtement

Un village rajasthani reconstitué sur vingt acres au sud de Jaipur, construit en 1990, où toute la culture populaire de l'État est présentée chaque soir en un seul lieu. C'est sans vergogne une création, et c'est aussi le seul moyen pratique de voir les danseurs Kalbeliya, les conteurs Bhopa et les interprètes du Terah Taali en une seule soirée plutôt que sur une semaine de voyage.

Les familles indiennes viennent ici en très grand nombre, ce qui explique en partie pourquoi cela fonctionne.

Les spectacles

Ghoomar, la danse en cercle des femmes rajpoutes avec les jupes qui s'évasent au tournant. Kalbeliya, dansé par la communauté des charmeurs de serpents, tout en épaules et colonne vertébrale, classé par l'UNESCO comme patrimoine immatériel. Bhopa-Bhopi, chanteurs narratifs mari et femme interprétant des épopées devant un rouleau peint.

Plus des spectacles de marionnettes, acrobates, magiciens et artistes du feu au fil de la soirée.

Tout le reste

Promenades à dos de chameau, de cheval et en charrette à bœufs. Des artistes de mehendi qui peindront vos mains en dix minutes, insistez sur le henné naturel brun et refusez tout ce qui est vendu comme « henné noir », qui contient de la PPD et brûle la peau.

Potiers, chiromanciens, tir à l'arc, un lac de bateaux et des étals d'artisanat rajasthani. Rien n'est programmé pour vous ; vous flânez.

Le dîner

Un thali rajasthani complet servi traditionnellement : vous êtes assis sur un tapis, mangez dans une assiette en laiton, et les serveurs continuent de remplir jusqu'à ce que vous les arrêtiez. Dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri, roti au bajra avec ghee, babeurre et gur.
