La ville fortifiée à pied

Jai Singh II a tracé Jaipur en 1727 sur une grille de neuf carrés tirée de traités architecturaux hindous, la première ville planifiée d'Inde, avec des rues de largeurs standard et des métiers affectés à des blocs spécifiques. Ce plan est encore lisible si quelqu'un vous le fait découvrir, et invisible si personne ne le fait.

Jantar Mantar

Jai Singh était un astronome qui construisait des villes à côté. Son observatoire abrite dix-neuf instruments en maçonnerie, classé UNESCO, incluant le Samrat Yantra, un cadran solaire de 27 mètres encore précis à environ deux secondes, et lisible si quelqu'un vous montre comment.

City Palace

Architecture moghole et rajpoute autour d'une série de cours, une partie encore résidence de l'ancienne famille royale. Depuis l'extérieur, le Chandra Mahal est le bloc à sept étages au centre ; le drapeau qui y flotte signifie que la famille est présente.

Hawa Mahal

La façade en nid d'abeille de 953 fenêtres, construite en 1799 comme extension du zenana pour que les femmes royales puissent observer les processions dans la rue sans être vues. À peine un mètre de profondeur par endroits, c'est un écran plutôt qu'un palais.

Govind Dev Ji

Le temple le plus aimé de Jaipur, dans les jardins du palais. L'image de Krishna a été apportée ici depuis Vrindavan pour la mettre à l'abri d'Aurangzeb, et sept aartis sont chantées quotidiennement devant une salle pleine. Le maharaja a placé ses propres appartements pour pouvoir voir la divinité depuis sa fenêtre.

Les bazars

Les anciens marchés entre les sites, vendeurs de fleurs, ruelles de bracelets, boutiques d'épices, et les métiers toujours installés où le plan de 1727 les a placés.

L'appareil photo de 250 ans

Un appareil photo en bois fonctionnel, développé à la main, avec un turban rajasthani à porter pour le portrait. C'est un gadget et c'est aussi un équipement véritablement ancien, et le tirage sort en environ cinq minutes.
