Les bazars de Jaipur sont l'un des meilleurs endroits pour acheter en Inde et l'un des plus faciles pour se faire arnaquer. Ce sont quatre heures avec un guide dont le travail est la seconde moitié de cela, ce qui est fait à la main, ce qui est fait à la machine et vendu comme fait à la main, et quel est réellement le prix local.

Johari Bazaar

La rue des bijoutiers, et le plus ancien commerce de la ville. Travail kundan et meenakari dans les vitrines, or au poids, argent au plateau, et marchands de pierres précieuses à l'étage dont vous ne devineriez jamais les portes.

C'est aussi là que travaillent les fabricants de bracelets en laque.

Fabriquer un bracelet en laque

Le laque est une résine sécrétée par un insecte sur des arbres hôtes, collectée et raffinée en un matériau malléable. Le fabricant ramollit un bâton au-dessus d'une petite flamme, le travaille sur une pierre, l'enroule autour d'un mandrin en bois pour la taille, joint les extrémités, et incruste des miroirs ou du verre tant qu'il est encore chaud.

Vous le faites vous-même, avec lui guidant vos mains, et vous ramenez le bracelet chez vous. Cela prend environ quinze minutes et c'est la partie de cette visite que tout le monde retient.

Cet artisanat est spécifique au Rajasthan et il disparaît, il y a moins de familles qui le pratiquent chaque décennie.

Bapu Bazaar

À l'intérieur du mur de la ville entre Sanganeri et New Gate : textiles, chaussons en cuir mojari aux bouts recourbés, teinture nouée bandhani et leheriya, sacs en cuir de chameau, razais matelassés.

Un bon mojari se plie facilement dans la main ; un mauvais est du carton avec du cuir collé. Votre guide vous montrera la différence.

Hawa Mahal

Un arrêt photo à la façade en nid d'abeille, 953 fenêtres, cinq étages, construite en 1799 pour que les femmes de la cour puissent observer la rue sans être vues. La lumière du matin le frappe directement, c'est le moment où il devient vraiment rose.
